The best way I've found for gifting Kitty things without much effort being needed is going into her shop and purchasing "Animal Food". She mentions it in her diary and it only costs 100g per food, and gives you a pretty nice amount of affection for it. No need for fishing or cooking. One of the more expensive options I suppose, but opens you up to being able to actively work on a different NPC's afffection.

Wiki is outdated, dev changed lot of gifts not so long ago.
