We only started today and its been non stop fun so far. Lots more to do and no issues yet.
Yeah the multiplayer is very fake. You can plant some stuff together but quests, bosses, and other things you'd expect to be able to do in a co-op environment are all solo experiences (if you complete a quest, there is no progress update for your friend). You can't really progress with a friend unless you're each doing the exact same thing at the exact same time.
In Stardew Valley aside from the community center pretty much everything else is also a solo thing. Like other players cannot even interact with the community center unless they also do the things that lead to going to the wizard. Enemy kills for the bounties are also individualized, so doing the mine in coop will slow down everyones progress for kills.
