You can have a single farm. There are totems that allow you to grow the race specific crops in a different area. So you put down the say the elven town totem in Sun Haven you can grow there crops in sun haven. As far as I understand it. I have not tried it yet myself, just saw the totems in game.
Think of Dragon Age and the separation between City Elves and Dalish Elves, same species but at some point geographical and societal differences turned them into entirely separate groups.
Kitty and Catherine are evidence that individual members of "monster" species are not shunned in Sun Haven; it's the fact that they've formed a rival dragon-armed superpower that scares people.
