Killing Floor 3

Unreal Engine 5? Really?
So considering the numerous badly optimized Unreal Engine 5 games we got in 2024 etc. Silent Hill 2 remake and STALKER 2.. will KF3 fall into that category?

I am 100% not trying to rely on upscaling framegen technology for stable frames.

Not only badly optimized but also coming with ghosting and that cancer AA called TAA as the only choice, instead of the superior SSAA or MSAA that we used to enjoy as gamers.

gaming in 2025... I guess going full pro-Timmy and using his engine pays off.

TAA sucks so much, clarity nowadays is noticeably just down the drain.

If KF3 were to use UE4, they'd have to use a heavily stylized artstyle with low-fidelity assets in order to make room for post-release updates, or else we'll have a repeat of KF2's ">ue3 in 2023"

Ew yuck, guess I shouldn't take for granted that the game at least still has a realistic style and hasn't gone all Borderlands cartoony cellshaded or something like Postal 4 did.

I mean, when KF2 left Early Access in 2016, the game was already pushing the absolute hard limits of what could be done with an old and unsupported engine from 2006. This would've been fine if KF2 entered EOL immediately after leaving early access. Receiving 7 years worth of content updates, not so much.

While I don't doubt that there will be issues on launch, KF3 should at least have a much higher chance of surviving its content updates than KF2

I dunno if OP is aware, but all other instalments used UE.

That doesn't mean anything since there all graphically different. UE5 is newer and allows devs to get the craziest textures possible at the cost of performance and shader compilation stutter.

Means devs have experience working with UE and they know what they are doing (I hope).

Experience can do nothing now that UE5 does not support proper AA anymore, contrary to UE3 and UE4. It's either no AA and lines or TAA with ghosting and blur. UE5 is just flawed and most games using it are suffering from the same problems.

It's not just OP, it's everywhere https://www.vg247.com/unreal-engine-5-has-been-a-disappointment

We've already seen what happens if Killing Floor is to run on an old and unsupported engine. They'd have to deliberately make a theoretical UE4 KF3 look like a Wii game in order to allow for the game to receive updates without suffering performance issues like KF2 did.

Can't you usually turn AA off and use a reshade or something to add a better AA?

There are games that still look awesome with UE4, what performance issues did KF2 have that I don't know of? Except for using Nvidia's "flex" which was basically experimental.
