Do also remember that every wire added adds 0.02 to the base heat the reactor produces. This isn't a lot, but cooling is hard to get, so adding even a small amount to the base heat is never a good thing. You should try and avoid rewiring things unless you really need to for this reason - but it can be much easier to just plus-wire a motor to get a tiny bit more weight capacity than mess with a weapon to make it lighter. Likewise, you can get energy costs for energy weapons up or down a small amount with the wiring, sometimes more precisely than you would be able to with customization pips. If you're only short by 3 energy then maybe just undervolting the laser is a lot better than reducing its power draw by 10 which makes it a much worse laser.
