This was quietly and surprisingly amazing. If you aren't going to read anything else, know that I also consider this one of the best stealth games I've played, like most of the other reviews here.

It's very much like playing Metal Gear Solid V if you and all of the guards were all submarine-spaceships floating in the thick murk of a gas giant's atmosphere.

The sound design is great, everything clicks, beeps, or chirps just like it should. After a while playing the sounds become natural and you can hear whether your sonar ping has found anything without looking at the visual feedback, because the sound tells you. The guns sound good, the gadgets all sound good, everything is good.

The visuals are very bright, but if you can cope with that, they do the job just fine - arguably better than more detailed graphics would, as the wireframe computer-aided-abstraction look fits very nicely with the idea that you can't really SEE anything, and this is all being processed from sensors on board. I like them, they're stylized and fresh.

The gameplay is excellent, easily one of the best tuned stealth games I've played. You can take it slow, you can go fast and risky, but there's tradeoffs to both and everything in between. It manages to hit the feeling of stealthy bits and then dropping into frantic action that MGSV had, but if anything, actually gets the blend a little better - you're surprisingly tough in combat with the early foes, with several health chunks, each of which seems to regenerate to good condition if not entirely broken, and the enemy counters that by having a lot of reinforcements and numbers, and eventually a vast and overwhelming superiority in firepower. Once you're detected, you'll be hounded across the level very effectively, but if you can break line of sight and hide (actually hide, since they'll investigate the last place you were spotted, and there's no guaranteed "I'll just sit in this box and be safe" spots, really) then you can still benefit from a little stealth even during an alert, but its very difficult. Waiting out the alert drops back into stealth gameplay, but the enemies are all harder to fool now, and probably have reinforcements.

There's a lot of things to do when you're floating stealthily around as well, with the enemy information and control loop being nicely visible, mostly (but never entirely) predictable, and so you can set up several emergent results by learning how the enemies behave. Gear unlocking is a little slow, this is really my only criticism of the game at all - there's a lot of gear, and you... don't get all that much all that fast. If you're lucky, one or two per successful mission, but sometimes less. Generally, the variety of enemies and gear and stuff is dense enough that it's not really a problem.

If you like stealth action games, you should get this.
