I miss when I could server hop in this game.

My friend lives in another country. We used to play deadlock every weekend, but then valve changed the possibility of server hopping through console, now every time we play we can't go to NA and get a even ping for all of us. That change frankly killed the only group i had to play the game with.
I love deadlock and Holliday is super fun to play. But it's really annoying we can't choose a server. Why did this change happen? if anyone has the info i'd like to know...
