Full Patch Notes:

Added

Cross-platform multiplayer.
Added the final alternate actor, the lightning guard.
A new setting that allows players to prevent automatically switching weapons on pickup.
Text chat button has been added to multiplayer menus.
Level statistics: such as kill and secret counts, have been added to the map screen.
(PC) Added support for connection to a LAN address from the interface.
(PC) Level editor now has a music jukebox.
(PC) Lobby invitations can now be sent to friends from the main lobby screen.
(PC) Add confirmation for starting a COMM-BAT game while playing single-player.
(PC) Added support for `-file` parameter for loading custom KPF files.
Old `-file` parameter has been changed to `-file0`.
(PC) A new network stats option has been added to the options menu.

Changed
Fonts now have slashed 0's to make them easier to read.
Online timeout has been adjusted to 20 seconds.
Better default sound settings that are less ear-splitting.
(PC) Scanning for lobbies now tells you what is going on with the scan - if it's still scanning or if it's complete.
(Switch, Sony) Significant performance improvements when looking at floor or ceiling textures.

Fixed
Various rendering glitches that were noticed at higher resolutions have been fixed.
Significant improvements to online lobbies have been made, making connections more reliable.
Numerous shortcomings with the netcode have been addressed, especially in instances of low bandwidth.
It is no longer possible to get stuck in the game upon connection to a server that shuts down during level load.
Booting into the editor now no longer has messed-up camera controls.
Platform icon is no longer stretched in the scoreboard.
Killing Big John with a flamewall or god ball no longer softlocks the game.
Many instances of menu stack corruption have been addressed, solving various softlocks.
Title screen has many fewer missing pixels at the bottom of each column of pixels.
Rumble no longer persists between levels.
Default music tracks no longer cause excess CPU usage.
Disabling freelook now snaps the view to the horizon.
Using the "No target" cheat code during the oscuro battle no longer crashes the game.
HUD Preview is now properly cleared when the menu is exited via unconventional means.
(Consoles) Default binds are now no longer merged with user-provided binds.
(Sony) Music no longer stops playing in instances where it incorrectly stopped.
(Switch) Going from docked to handheld mode no longer prevents controllers from being used.
(PC) Rumble now properly works in online games.
(PC) Invitations to join a game can now be accepted in more places.
(PC) Joining from an invite no longer potentially causes a hang.
(PC) Old lobbies are now cleared when lobbies are re-scanned.
(PC) Level editor verification has undergone several improvements.
(PC) Invalid screen sizes no longer cause the game to refuse to launch.
(PC) Custom gravity no longer carries over from multiplayer games.
(PC) Disconnections have been made more reliable and are less likely to freeze up controls.
(PC) Online lobbies are now a little more helpful in telling the user why the lobby died.
(PC) Prevent the scoreboard from being stuck in an enabled state between matches.
(PC) Various lightning levels should now work in COMM-BAT mode.
(PC) Instances where player color and character could be switched in the menu without taking effect ingame have been addressed.
(PC) Items that spawn in midair are now properly respawned at their correct Z height.
(PC) Voice chat options no longer show up in a LAN lobby.
(PC) Violence is now always forced to HIGH in a lobby, for consistency.
(PC) Returning to the lobby in the middle of a game no longer has the potential to crash the server.
(PC) Shooting another player point-blank will now always hit them.

Hello all you beautiful Oscuridos!

You may have noticed something in your Steam inventory today...

That's right - we've finally released the Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition Steam Trading Cards, Emotes and Backgrounds!

Featuring familiar faces, familiar places and... other stuff!

Collect 'em all, swap 'em with your friends!
Sell 'em on the black market in a shady alley!

Lately we've mostly been hard at work on the console versions of the game (which are out now![newblood.games])

And yes we're still getting cross platform multiplayer working - which was probably not the best idea to begin with but HEY WE KEEP OUR PROMISES AROUND HERE.
Once that's all sorted we can get back to working on ROTT: LE v1.1 which we're hoping to have out for you before the end of the year!

v1.1 will hopefully include:

The final alternate character (Lightning Guard)
More multiplayer modes and maps
Level editor music jukebox
The return of Remote Ridicule?!
An auto switch weapon pickup toggle (thankfully)
Stats menu for map screen (secrets/kills etc)
Custom Comm-Batt levels
Netcode improvements!

But that's not all. We've also been working on a physical collector's edition with Limited Run Games - and you'll be able to BE BURIED IN IT!

HUNT: You've done it! You've defeated El Oscuro... again! And again! And again!
And it's all thanks to this lovingly remastered version of Rise of the Triad. YOU'RE WELCOME.

We mean, erm... THANK YOU!

This remaster was made BY ROTT FANS / FOR ROTT FANS so we couldn't be happier to hear that we've done it right.

ːAnkhː But we're not done yet!

We're currently working on v1.1 and beyond that may include...

The final alternate character (Lightning Guard)
Steam Trading Cards and Emotes
More multiplayer modes and maps
Level editor music jukebox
A detailed level editor guide (I ain’t writing it)
The return of Remote Ridicule?!
An auto switch weapon pickup toggle (thankfully)
Stats menu for map screen (secrets/kills etc)
Custom Comm-Batt levels
High scores? Steam Leaderboards?!
Netcode improvements!
Console ports! (Almost ready)

"-editor" command line param now launches the game directly into the editor.

CHANGED

"Muzzle Flash" accessibility option now prevents level illumination.
Auto-map has had some changes to improve readability.
Save games on updated maps will now restart the map from the beginning when loaded.
Menu font now shrinks if menu title is too long.
Updates to the OPL player.

FIXED

Firing missiles while running into an Excalibat will no longer cause a crash.
Alternate Overpatrol is now the intended version.
Timed door on "Finally, Some Headroom!" stays open, as intended.
"Casual Sunday Barbecue" has had a softlock removed.
Exit in "If It Bleeds, Kill It" has been fixed to point to the correct level.
"Flabbey Road" and "Staff Meeting" are now their intended versions.
Pressing the "aim" button no longer screws up freelook.
Shooting an Oscuro egg no longer crashes the game.
Being a multiplayer client no longer prevents you from seeing server menu items on new lobby.
Ping now displays in milliseconds.
We no longer allow quick saving in multiplayer.

We're now also Steam Deck Verified!
So you can GET LUDICROUS anywhere at anytime.

Just in time for Steam Next Fest we've released the Shareware Demo (it's just a demo) for...

Rise of the Triad: LUDICROUS EDITION.

The demo features one level (4 levels total) from each episode of ROTT:

THE HUNT BEGINS

EXTREME RISE OF THE TRIAD

and our NEW EPISODE
THE HUNT CONTINUES

Plus you will be able to experiment with a lot of the NEW features available in the full game - such as new HUDS, restored alternate characters, alternate weapon sounds, uncapped FPS, ultrawide support, different soundtrack options, full controller support, FOV sliders, LUDICROUS lighting and MORE!!!

We've really thrown the kitchen sink at this remaster and we hope you appreciate it.

The Rise of the 'Retro FPS' and Updating a Classic

Members of the HUNT, we bring news from the front.

It's been a priest porridge ːPorridgeː HOT minute since we first revealed Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition at Realms Deep 2022. And we've been busy.

But we've only been busy because the Retro FPS community at large has been even busier.

Night Dive, New Blood and Apogee wouldn't even be here if the events of the last 10 years hadn't led us to this point.

So join us as we take a trip down memory lane during our 'Rise of the Retro FPS' panel we put on at PAX East a few weeks ago - and we'll talk after...

So yeah, it's taken us all a while to get to this point, but the good news is - there is nobody better to be making this remaster of THE Cult Classic FPS. Now let's get into what we've been working on:

A BRAND NEW and IMPROVED level editor.

It's as easy to use as we can possibly make it and features a ton of unused textures and items!

And it WILL ship with Steam Workshop Support.

We've also added MAP PREVIEWS and added back in the Rejected Maps!

But more importantly...

We've been hard at work restoring the cut characters... pixel by pixel.

These (optional) alternate versions of the characters will swap randomly depending on how much you want to see them, including enemies placed with the new editor, vastly increasing enemy visual variety!

You can see some of them in action in this 4K screenshot from our new episode "The HUNT Continues"

(and yes we'll be making sure they all have proper voice acting)

That's right, don't forget we're creating an ALL NEW ROTT EPISODE with our new level editor.

Made by developers from Night Dive, New Blood, the original Apogee, the DOOM mapping community and whoever else was crazy enough to join us!

And did you notice anything about that screenshot? Perhaps a NEW HUD? With a NEW FACE on it?!

Yeah, it's a shame that ROTT has been called a "DOOM clone" all these years but never even got a proper DOOM style HUD. So we're fixing that (optionally) with all new player faces and HUDs.

(With wide stretch and faceless options, of course!)

We think it adds a lot of personality to the game.

The demo will feature levels from The HUNT Begins, Dark War, Extreme ROTT and our new episode 'The Hunt Continues' plus will have all the new features you see here! (maybe)
