My general first impressions seems to be that this game is lacking a bit in the early game variety. It might help to have several different weapon paths to go down. Also a suggestion maybe split the ranged and melee weapons apart in the shop and buy what you think would be a more interesting build. Also the neutral mobs need to have more of an impact when you kill them. It seems like they are an after thought right now. Another suggestion maybe a weaponized shield for tanking damage.
