I don't get the idea of the puzzle with the plus sign circles and squares. Tried for an hour and gave up. Have no idea of how it's supposed to be solved. Has anyone figured it out?

I made it out of the first set of rooms. I'm now in a hall where I picked up a candle and two lighters. Can't figure out how to light the candle. Anyone?

I'm in an area where there is a desk. To the right of the desk there is a puzzle located on the wall close to the floor. There are different symbols of different colours ie: orange circle, green plus etc etc. I've tried matching up colours/shapes but no go. What's the logic to this puzzle?...
