Is it possible to use a Invite Code, when running Steam Version?

It should work. My wife plays through Steam and she was able to refer her friend.

Invite Codes works for steam accounts.
After registering your account you have a week to activate the invite code through the WGC-Steam application or through your personal account page on the official website.
