Documentation on order of operations

The exact way that symbols and items interact with each other is not straightforward. I want to create an AI for fun and to get some insights into how good various symbols are, but I need to be able to calculate what happens during a spin. Is there any documentation on that available?

Not that I know of.

From experience, I feel like the game checks for interactions column by column, starting from the highest slot. That's the order effects always happen.

However, in very specific circumstances (like a chest connecting with two keys), I haven't figured out the pattern yet. Sometimes only one key is consumed, sometimes it's both of them, and I'm not sure why.
