Emergency income, solution to an over-bloated deck. It's good to know it exists to fish for it in situations where nothing else can work, after a carrot essence/booster pack essence.
Notably, it's super good if you have a swapping device, to get a bunch of money and targeted removals. But yeah, if things are going well, no point in picking it.
HOWEVER, it's definitely got it's place for beginners and intermediates. Not only for swapping device shenanigans (somehow never thought about that, though then again I've never had both at the same time), but if you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up big or diversified too much, it can be valuable. I tend to start by growing multiple different builds- Cultist stuff, Flowers+Bees/Rain stuff, etc. One run, I had the Cult, a bunch of Flowers+Bees+a Sun, and tons of the card symbols (didn't have the wild card symbol sadly). All of them were the kind of stuff that benefitted from having MORE of itself, so I overdosed my slot machine with them, having I think 33+ symbols in it, which was... way too much.
By that point, I could only realistically optimize by lucky item picks and by trimming one of the three major builds, but I needed a lot of removals to even kill one. Then I found the Midas Bomb. I decided whatever the Midas Bomb killed the most of is what I would trim, and it killed the playing card symbols- enough of them that I was able to fairly easily trim them, giving me a strong build of cultists mixed with flowers+bees. It was a fun run that was definitely made better by the Midas Bomb!
Would an expert make this mistake? No. Was it the first time I ever got real use out of it? Yeah. Will I ever get use out of it again? ... Mmmmaybe?
It feels a little too situational, but when you need it, it's real good.
It's mostly just an emergency pick, and a blessing if you've got Swapping Device.
Some runs can be saved by it, but it's a last resort option.
