Before I figured that trick out, entering and exiting the house a bunch of times would eventually find them outside the house.
I experience the same thing all the time. What I have discovered is they randomize where all the characters are when you exit AND ENTER as building. Why, I couldn't say but it's ridiculous. You can easily test this and see it happen by repeatedly exiting a house and watching where everyone is on the map, some will change.
So frustrating, why would they execute this "function" upon entering a building? It's either a bug or a bad design choice. Like hey Moana, you were just inside your house but now your at the beach (or gone), wtf? Sometimes eventually they will randomly land back in their house after a few to many tries, or meet at the front door, but again, random.
One of the other really fascinating bugs is when you have someone join you, and you enter/then exit a building they will randomly be placed somewhere on the map and have to run back to you, unless you portal and they will be with you. What should happen is obviously the character should stay with you. This is also easily tested and proved as well.
It is my hope they they stop add new stuff for a few months and clean up all these bugs and annoyances, do some QOL changes.
Agree. I love this game but am definitely not purchasing any packs for it until this game breaking bug is fixed. None of the workarounds have worked. Daisy Duck is stuck in one place on my map, but she's not actually "there." It says she's in her house, but she's not. Right now I don't have any quest lines where I need her, but I know the day will come and my game will no longer function.
I'm right there with you! I hope they fix this issue soon.
