Online info was saying all-vegetarian ingredient meals? Not sure if grains count or only "vegetables".
When you fed them herring did you check the achievement counter to confirm it is a favorite meal?

There is a website that has a whole page about unlocking everything and hints about what each critter likes.

Their favorites are 4 or 5-star vegetarian meals. Vegetarian tacos are the "cheapest" for me to cook so I'm going with those!

There are many websites but sometimes they are wrong and most of them just copy each other, especially the major websites that show up on top of the google search results. And a lot of them are loaded with padding just for SEO.
