When you do Dreamsnaps voting, maybe 1 in 20 pictures will feature a male character.
And there's just so much I-want-princess-fantasy in the suggestions in the official Discord.
When we look at Disney, it's all about the princess fantasy. The key characters are typically women -- Snow White, Ariel, Mulan, ... the list goes on. It's like almost every movie. Heck Frozen has two princesses in it.
And probably the male fans of Disney are just as happy to fawn over the princesses too.
If people wanted to complain, they would have started there, not with DDLV.
Now we have a Disney game and suddenly their consumer base demands a male protagonist? Or can't identify with a male one? More likely the demographic is so skewed toward girls playing girls that the demand is not enough for them to consider devoting a big chunk of their resources to it.
Maybe there's pushback for inclusivity but it's unlikely anyone wants to make a children's game their battleground for it.
In all seriousness, it's a game marketed to families, all ages/genders etc. Disney has always had a lot more focus on the princesses in general, it should be expected.
You're an idiot.
"Not to argue on the OP's side'? ♥♥♥♥ off.
Anyway, hate to tell you, but as many people have already mentioned (the posts that I read anyway) there are many shirtless characters in the films.
But it's cool. This game is garbage, and I hope people torrent it.
It's still funny though.. Women had to fight for centuries to TRY to get as much privilege than male.. and even though it's considered we achieved equality in multiple countries, male are still being favored in many ways like salaries and stuff like that.. but the moment women seems to be favored (for something that is not even important because it's just a virtual thing with no value) then men QQ instantly because wow, women are being favored... they are not accustomed to not be first in everything.. just funny when you think about it ahah. And yes, i'm for equality. But still, very funny!
If games are played equally much by women & men with set characters, then the mostly played characters will be getting the most cosmetics. It's really just to cater to the player base analytics that brings in most of the money.
genuinely wtf? Not letting you run about shirtless doesn't mean this game is "tailored only to women". Most of the nice one piece outfits are designed with men in mind. You should have left this asinine opinion as a review.
While yes this game does include a male playable character which you can swap to at will, its more of a target audience situation. A large amount of games similar to this (Cozy life sim style games) tend to be relatively more popular among females (Same goes for Disney as a brand which tends to have a larger female demographic) which is why there are more female targeted options. This is going off more of a statistics lookup and some personal knowledge but its not 100% true as I'm a woman myself and I also enjoy more action oriented games like a lot of guys tend to do but I love me a good ol easy going life sim as well.
Plus due to this game's rating and that it is often seen as taboo in a few cultures with some of the stuff OP listed in their post which is why Gameloft and Disney decided to not go with that or risk getting banned in some countries with stricter legislation (They are a family brand and there's no doubt you'll have kids playing, plus this game is pretty inclusive for people of many different nationalities which is one thing most people want when it comes to character customization from what I've seen.)
Shirtless options for male isn't a big deal from my point of view, there's nothing sexual behind it either. Anyone who thinks differently about being shirtless has a dirty mind and nothing else. There are many shirtless characters represented in the Disney universe. But that aside, as already mentioned, generally more options for male characters would be great. Being uncreative in their design is not an excuse for a company of this size and wealth to not do it.
