Clearly tailored to a female gamer.
I had the misfortune of playing this on Xbox Live, and I thank whatever gods above and below that I didn't purchase this.

Why?
It's obvious that this game is tailored to female players, which is fine. But the fact that it's not remotely inclusive is beyond inappropriate.

Can someone explain to me why almost all of the 'good' clothing are for women only (unless your male character wants to wear a dress, more power to you) while the males get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gear?

Like, what if your dude wants to run around shirtless in a pair of shorts or whatever? Why can't we get a shirtless outfit?

Because women can't go shirtless in this game, right? God forbid they do something for males exclusively.

I can't support this game.

I really hope this is a troll, because "Waaaa, there's a game that centers females is so wrong!" is such a stupid complaint. Sorry that 99% of the games out there are only for males/male avatars, and you can't handle that this super casual game has a couple more dresses than suits. This isn't even a DEI complaint, this is just whining. My female avatar is currently wearing a suit, what does that say?!

I don't know about being geared toward a female gamer, but it is certainly for people who want to play a female character.
When you do Dreamsnaps voting, maybe 1 in 20 pictures will feature a male character.
And there's just so much I-want-princess-fantasy in the suggestions in the official Discord.

When we look at Disney, it's all about the princess fantasy. The key characters are typically women -- Snow White, Ariel, Mulan, ... the list goes on. It's like almost every movie. Heck Frozen has two princesses in it.
And probably the male fans of Disney are just as happy to fawn over the princesses too.
If people wanted to complain, they would have started there, not with DDLV.

Now we have a Disney game and suddenly their consumer base demands a male protagonist? Or can't identify with a male one? More likely the demographic is so skewed toward girls playing girls that the demand is not enough for them to consider devoting a big chunk of their resources to it.
Maybe there's pushback for inclusivity but it's unlikely anyone wants to make a children's game their battleground for it.

IRL is the same. Guys all wear a shirt and pants and all look the same, while us females enjoy an almost infinite selection of outfits.

LOL now you know what it's like for Female gamers when literally everything is tailored to men.
In all seriousness, it's a game marketed to families, all ages/genders etc. Disney has always had a lot more focus on the princesses in general, it should be expected.

The man doesn't even have nips (I think). While OP wants to display his bulging hairy nips in every space he goes into.

You're an idiot.

Not to argue on the OP's side, but I'm curious re:"because of the kids playing" - did Lilo & Stitch have any shirtless beach dudes in it?

Personally, I'd guess that the lack of shirtless option for dudes is a combination of "that's not the style we're going for" and "eh, you'd need to add a complication to the dress-up system". /shrug

"Not to argue on the OP's side'? ♥♥♥♥ off.

Anyway, hate to tell you, but as many people have already mentioned (the posts that I read anyway) there are many shirtless characters in the films.

But it's cool. This game is garbage, and I hope people torrent it.

I play a female character (being a female player) but I never wear dresses.. I dislike dresses in the real world so I won't use any ingame... and it's fine to me... I can find many clothes that are nice. In fact, dresses are highly restrictive. When you wear one, you can barely wear anything else. Everything else but costume, i can mix match whatever I like which is way more fun IMO.

It's still funny though.. Women had to fight for centuries to TRY to get as much privilege than male.. and even though it's considered we achieved equality in multiple countries, male are still being favored in many ways like salaries and stuff like that.. but the moment women seems to be favored (for something that is not even important because it's just a virtual thing with no value) then men QQ instantly because wow, women are being favored... they are not accustomed to not be first in everything.. just funny when you think about it ahah. And yes, i'm for equality. But still, very funny!
Games like DDLV or Sims for example are mostly played by women. So it makes sense that most items are tailored for women. It's not companies being sexist or whatever, they just act according to their player base analytics. Just like there are some games out there that are mostly played by men & therefore offer more cosmetics for men.

If games are played equally much by women & men with set characters, then the mostly played characters will be getting the most cosmetics. It's really just to cater to the player base analytics that brings in most of the money.

We're consistently forgotten about, mistreated or misrepresented in the gaming industry. Let us have this one, and either enjoy it with us or suffer in silence, like the rest of us do.

WAAA THE GAME DOESN'T LET ME BE SHIRTLESS THIS IS MISANDRY!!! THEY SHOULD GIVE ME A MALE EXCLUSIVE SHIRTLESS OPTION!!!

genuinely wtf? Not letting you run about shirtless doesn't mean this game is "tailored only to women". Most of the nice one piece outfits are designed with men in mind. You should have left this asinine opinion as a review.

How should I explain this and plus this post feels really whiny...

While yes this game does include a male playable character which you can swap to at will, its more of a target audience situation. A large amount of games similar to this (Cozy life sim style games) tend to be relatively more popular among females (Same goes for Disney as a brand which tends to have a larger female demographic) which is why there are more female targeted options. This is going off more of a statistics lookup and some personal knowledge but its not 100% true as I'm a woman myself and I also enjoy more action oriented games like a lot of guys tend to do but I love me a good ol easy going life sim as well.

Plus due to this game's rating and that it is often seen as taboo in a few cultures with some of the stuff OP listed in their post which is why Gameloft and Disney decided to not go with that or risk getting banned in some countries with stricter legislation (They are a family brand and there's no doubt you'll have kids playing, plus this game is pretty inclusive for people of many different nationalities which is one thing most people want when it comes to character customization from what I've seen.)

And how many games in this world are tailored to male gamers???? As a female gamer, I cannot even to begin to list all of the games I have played where the female options were minimal.

yes!!!!
While I'm neither agreeing nor disagreeing with most people here, I do think that more customization options for male characters would really benefit the game and also would draw more male players into this world to milk for their money and bring enjoyment to them.

Shirtless options for male isn't a big deal from my point of view, there's nothing sexual behind it either. Anyone who thinks differently about being shirtless has a dirty mind and nothing else. There are many shirtless characters represented in the Disney universe. But that aside, as already mentioned, generally more options for male characters would be great. Being uncreative in their design is not an excuse for a company of this size and wealth to not do it.
