Bass fish not counting?

This was a very confusing Starpath mission. I figured the solution was a Bass, but my first catch did not count for whatever reason. I was confused and tried Sole thinking that might be it...then just any fish I could catch because my first and second theory did not seem to work.

Accidentally caught another Bass, and suddenly got credit. The game does seem a bit glitchy today. I guess that is to be expected.
