Moonstones require to progress?
Do you still have to have Moonstones to progress? Prior to full release, in EA you had to have moonstones to even unlock certain gates to content. Has this changed?

Moonstones to unlock certain gates? Like you mean to 'new' biomes? You need dreamlight for that which is rewarded in game and for doing daily activities.

Moonstones are used for premium cosmetics and for the Starpath, maybe that's what you meant. You can completely ignore Starpath though should you choose to.

you never used moonstones to progress, been playing since day 1. this has never been a thing. you use DREAMLIGHT to progress the game, which is rewarded in game. you have NEVER had to pay moonstones for anything but the starpath and premium shop, and that is cosmetic items only. also you can get free moonstones from doing dreamsnaps. i have 18,000 after buying all the new stuff today and bought none of those.

other than the 2 bundles, which are also in the shop and have very simple quests for specific characters nothing special

prem shop and bundles need prem currency so paid to access it.
nothing today needs you to buy anything outside your original purchase, however you will miss out on expansions and items and skins for characters.
to be fair you can enjoy this game without paying its possible and all, but you just cant pay attention to shop or anything like that

This feels like a troll post but anyways *sigh*

Moonstones are only for cosmetic items and the star path if you want to mess with those features. They are not required for gameplay and the other two in-game currencies are not tied whatsoever to them. Think of OG Overwatch before it was ruined by activation-blizzard with the so called sequel and while yes it was disgustingly a loot-box, it was all cosmetic.

This is NOT a troll post.

I understand from some friends who played in EA that things felt very gated. I was asking for myself since most everyone I know no longer plays this game.

Thank you though.

so you made a very false claim with no first hand knowledge because again, been playing since day 1, moonstones were never used to unlock areas. it was only ever cosmetic items not game play other than the 2 very options bundles with some very dull extra quests not needed for the story at all.

Early on in EA, people still were figuring out that you needed Dreamlight to progress and it isn't easy to come by until/unless you constantly dig up the shards. They had to change the spawn rate of those early on and now you get a ton super easy. That's likely what they were referring to- it's much quicker to progress and unlock things now.

Edit to add: The tasks and various achievement things also contributed, but considering the amount needed was in the thousands for each new biome, it feels slow.

Once you've completed all the story and character quests, there's nothing else to do. So if you want guided tasks, your only option is to do the star path. Since some of the rewards are locked unless you use moonstones... in a way you can say content is gated.

However, the moonstones you get for buying the game are enough to unlock the premium star path right out the gate, and they give so many away for free, you don't ever have to worry about not having enough to unlock the star path. Unless you spend them all on cosmetics...
