Moving storage box

Apologies if this is addressed elsewhere, didn't see anything in a quick search. If I pick up a storage box to move it to a different room in my house, do all of the items in the storage box disappear, or will they travel with the box? Thanks for replies!

this depends, if it is a normal storage box you craft then it will not be able to be picked up, the vintage ones you can buy from scrooge or that spawn in any house skin you place as a house you can move around, since they are linked the items will be the same in all vintage chests so will travel with box, any other storage item can not be picked up unless empty

Got it. Yes, tried to pick up a full crafted storage box and was unable to. Also was unable to move it from room to room in my house. Created two new storage boxes, placed them in my new room, hand carried items from room to room, then moved an empty existing box into the new room and now I'm all set. And with additional storage. Thanks!

i use the vintage ones to transport items from one place to another. have 1 in each biome and 1 in each storage room, empty into the vintage chest and then sort when i have time and will to do so.
