Well there is no date for the official launch of the game other than sometime in 2023. As to the part of whether it will be free-to-play when it launches, the answer is yes. As per their website, "After Early Access, Disney Dreamlight Valley will be free-to-play and have purchasable expansion options to enhance your gameplay."

If I had to guess when it will launch, probably after implementation of the multiplayer feature slated for the second half of 2023.

i thought you would be able to go to all areas but there will also be micro transactions for shop stuff and currency? or is that not what they mean by "expansion options" as areas?

they stated no gameplay would be locked behind a paywall, only cosmetic items and to be honest most of them aren't better than other items you can get for in game currency and they did state there MIGHT be sales in the shop, that one I am not sure about as they didn't say for sure just they were considering it. Now after the full game drops there could be paid dlc to add more to the game that they couldn't in the official release but only time will tell with that.

it´s only certain cosmetics. But you get moonstones daily and the cosmetics rotate in the shop. So you can just keep collecting moonstones daily. All areas in the game are open once you do your quests, tasks and unlock them.

If you want to start the first star path (after release) right away, you'll have to buy your first 1,500 moonstones. Otherwise, you'll have to farm the blue chest every day for 30 days if you want to participate.

However, that first blue chest might spawn in a spot you won't be able to reach for a long time, so it's possible you'll miss the first star path depending on how fast you can open new areas. My very first blue chest was in Frosted Heights, and it took me a few weeks to unlock it.

Yeah, as with most in game pay games, it will always come down to either be willing (or just enjoying) playing consistently every day or buying instant gratification for the Star Paths or Store items.

As note, really long hours if you are just starting and need to unlock areas to get the blue chests. Unless they reduce the star path event times, there will probably be enough time to do it, but it would not be easy.

That is partially why I actually think the EA price is pretty reasonable. You get the game NOW and essentially you are just buying a reasonable quantity of moonstones for the things you NEED in the game. If you use the store, you probably will need to pay more eventually. While the castle re-skin seemed nice, that was the only thing offered that even remotely caught my interest...but not enough to buy it with real money.

I bought the cheapest version, and the moonstones have been adequate to complete everything offered. (But I do pick up the blue chest(s) most days. I am not exactly sure when they spawn back out, but they do seem to stick around at least an additional day if you miss playing for a day.

Buying one of the EA options now is a pretty good way to support the game, also gives you an initial buffer of premium currency on top of the headstart to get a daily chest. Get it on sale if you are keen, game is pretty good except for some bugs.

Lion King realm is planned for April update. Also if you do want some moonstones, now or future, the deluxe editions are vastly cheaper than buying the packs, especially on sale.
