NO IDEA how to do Dream Snaps
I even searched and read online guides.

One says collect pixel dust to bring the girl into the game and that unlocks Dream Snaps.

Another says do Dream Snaps to unlock the girl into the game.

So which is it...and how do I collect pixel dust.

It says tap D to open the Dream Snaps menu. All it does is move my avatar a bit. I'm not sure why, since I have it set to use arrow keys, I thought...

Speaking of which I can barely move for a couple weeks now or so in the game. Can they put it back like it was. The controls are way too tight now. Or let us adjust it like some games do. The way you let us adjust lighting...and let us set both by the way, where we prefer it. (To stay there til we change it again.)

So right now I have a bit of a headache trying to enjoy the new updates. I can barely move and I can't figure out Dream Snaps. :steamfacepalm: Any tips?

Vanelope will tell you that she'd like you to take a picture somewhere to "check the network" which then starts a very short tutorial about dreamsnaps. It will tell you that you should check the challenge requirements in the Events menu under the dreamsnaps section, or you can check the requirements in photo mode with D (while you are IN photo mode, not outside it or it will just assume you're doing WASD to move your character, as you found out). You'll exit the castle and check the requirements for this week. It will tell you that "mandatory" is 5 items considered "playful" and 5 items considered "familiar". It then lists "suggested" types of Modern and Wreck-It-Ralph. I decided to go to the 2nd floor of my house and decorate a room using the requirements, but you can decide if you'd rather do something outdoors instead. You go into furniture mode and use the "filters" option to select "playful" and "familiar" to see items that meet the requirements. Only items meeting those requirements are shown after you apply the filters. Then if you want other suggestions, you can select the filters for Modern and Wreck-it-ralph. Again, you're free to decide to use other items not shown in the filter, just make sure that you have met the mandatory requirements in order to submit the photo. When you're done adding and arranging items, get out the in-game camera (6 by default) and frame your photo. If you have met the requirements (5 playful and 5 familiar for this week), it will give you an option to submit it as a dreamsnap. If you don't get that option, you haven't met the requirements yet, so add some other items or change the angle to include more items in the frame of the photo window.

If you decide later that you want to submit a different photo, it will ask you if you want to replace your original dreamsnap, since you can only have one as your submission for the week. It's really not as complicated as this answer might make it sound and I'm sure that once you've done one, you'll have no trouble

Well guess what -- I searched again and this time I found a guide that had a screenshot of how it should look in Dream Snaps mode.

So here's what I found out --

Set up your room as outlined in the Dream Snaps challenge.

Get all the elements in the photo with you -- or in the photo -- it won't 'read' them unless it 'sees' them.

Take the photo. BEFORE You save the photo, press D. Then look on the screen to your left.

You will see how many of each element you still lack, or if they are all in the photo, it will say 5/5 or whatever -- like when you have a gathering quest. If it's lacking it will say 3/5 or something.

Once the elements are fulfilled, 5/5 each in this case -- then it will ask if you want to upload it to Dream Snaps. For that, you press T.

And that's about it...

Oh and it wouldn't let me at first because I had on a dress I had 'made.' So it even counts clothing in the 'no painted fabrics' rule or whatever. So make sure nothing is hand painted.

Thanks so much, @Kat Ballou! It looks like we cross-posted.

Those are very helpful hints, however! I appreciate it.

There's no way my snapshot is anything creative...I don't enjoy the decorating challenges, I find them too proscribed. I'm sure some will come up with amazing things within the parameters.

But at least I was able to get the girl into the game. Her house fit well beside the candy house I had in the forest biome. And that's a larger biome, so there was enough room for it.

I decorated one of the rooms in the new beach house. I went to Scrooge's shop and looked at furniture categories first and then tried to remember pieces. The filters would've worked also.

It would be nice if they let us pick filters in Furniture mode, and only show the ones that qualify.

It would be nice if wallpaper and flooring also counted. I'm not sure if they do. I'm also not sure if more than one of the same item counts once or more than once. In my opinion it should say those things or have a Help area in the game, for those types of questions. Or it could just do some type of counter, while placing things.

You're right @Kat Ballou, I thought press D meant at any time. It's only while taking the photo, but before saving the photo.

That is where you pick the filters. While in furniture mode, you select the filters that the game has told you are the requirements for the week, and then only the items that you own that meet those requirements will be shown to you. You're free to add other items, of course, but just make sure your photo meets the mandatory requirements as well.

I have tried everything and it just isn't working. I have the challenge down to 5/5 4/5 and so I get the items gathered for the last shot and everything changes! Suddenly I'm down to 2/5 and 3/5. Can someone explain what it is I'm doing wrong? Is this a glitch?

I am also having this problem. I get all of the required items in the photo, but it doesn't seem to register that I did it. I even placed the items, completely exited the game, and loaded back into it to see if it needed reset. Perhaps this is just a bug because it's a brand new feature?

Did your player character in the photo after the shot? Some of the clothes meet the requirements.

The first dreamsnap is just a tutorial, so you can forget about making it look nice, just go to the furniture tab, check the filters for the right items and just pile them in front of you.

After the tutorial one you get to do the first one(which is clothing only). You get scored automatically by how well it fits the theme, and people vote on it. The reward is like half automated score and half votes. So again, if you don't actually care you can just check the filters for the right items and wear as much of the items you can fit on your character, without regard to how it looks. That gives you the most rewards, if you don't want to bother with winning votes.

You had me at "forget about making it look nice". That is my strategy for this challenge.:HappyMoonman:

I just dumped a pile of stuff in the forest and took my picture with it.
StressFrakture Jul 20, 2023 @ 7:04pm
It all has to be in the photo so make sure it all is, each time. Also don't put anything on the counter tops because a bug makes things on counter tops suddenly vanish.

Make sure all items are in the correct categories.

How do you vote? I know it says that voting is an option seen under the challenge but I don't see a voting option.
Myth Alric Jul 20, 2023 @ 8:11pm
Voting starts at the end of the submission deadline, so you wont be able to vote until next week. I assume Wednesday next week they will put up a new challenge and open voting for this week.
