Moving Chests Indoors

Hi all-
I am relatively new to the game, so I apologize if this has already been answered.

I crafted a few small chests, and placed them outdoors. I would like to move them indoors. However, when I use the Furniture tab, there is no option for remove, to place them back into my inventory.

Do the chests have to be emptied before you can accomplish this, or is there some other way to move the chests inside my house?

Yes, to move them inside or outside a room or house they need to be empty.
