Premium shop - The beginning of the end
Introducing the Premium shop in the next patch marks the beginning of the end for DDV for me, with the paid Early Access drawing closer to the end. I don't mind that the game gets another way of collecting furniture and cosmetics for your village, becuase we need that! It's the "Premium" about it that sucks - "Free-2-Play" is just a bad idea for a game like this and will alienate your playerbase.

Making Moonstone "easier to get" is not going to solve anything until you take away the option to pay for it with real money altogether. Because we will never have enough of it to buy everything in the Premium shop AND the Starpath, will we, and I bet you anything the premium shop will only have items available for a short time...

As a EA-adopter I gladly paid to play the game and never regretted it. I can honestly say it's worth the cost have recommended several friends to get it as well. But I won't and will never recommend a F2P-game with "Preium-features". Make it a full priced game instead and drop this stupid way of encouraging people to buy digital items...

Having said that, I love the dedication to making this game better! Real great fixes and features being added!

Personally, I'm amazed that the bigger chests aren't in the Moonstone shop. I expected that they would only be there.

Unless something radically changes, there have been no "premium" items I could not live without. So far I have been able to get them all without additional expense. I bought the base version of the game.

I did have to complete the starpath each time to finally acquire all the premium items. I guess the advantage of the higher tier packages is you didn't have to wait to get them and they did come with a few cosmetic items I had no interest in.

So as I note, unless they change the strategy radically, not sure it will be any different for me after it becomes a pay to collect items situation. If they start to charge for new doors to open or to interact with new characters, I will be gone. I would be just as happy if they axed the furniture and about 90% of the clothes out of the game. I am guessing those will be exciting for the MP folks to impress each other but not an MP fan.

I think it is pretty fair so far, given that they are adding the larger moonstone chest. With the larger chest you will likely be able to do all the star paths for free from now on, if you log on everyday. In fact since the star path also gives moonstones, if you log in everyday and complete the star path, that means you will be able to do the star path and get premium items for free each month, if you play actively.

Which means you only really need to pay more money if you want to collect all the items in the game, or if you play more casually but also want everything.

You do know we all knew it was going to be a thing why be so shocked now? It's not going to lock any of the char behind it they already Told us all about what they plane to have in it.. The company has to have money some how to keep the game going. A only free to play it well die before it gets anywhere good.

I am pretty sure this is how they intended it to be. I vaguely remember reading once early access is done it would be a free game which means buying moonstone would be their main source of revenue.

The question you have to ask is how over-priced is the premium shop going to be

Exactly this.
If everything is mega expensive its not gonna go down well, plus the items are gonna have to be pretty damn cool to warrant wanting them in the first place

What might be overpriced to someone might be a bargain to someone else.

I think the topic creator is right to be worried, and yes they said NO characters will be locked behind the paywall...... but how can anyone have faith in that in 2023 vs. Disney who can be considered the EA of Entertainment?

But I agree right now there is a wait and see aspect to it. This game does need to make money and needs to keep making money. But if your a gamer you know how the "premium shops" usually are what kill these games.

To be fair, I feel like they have been pretty transparent about the game being free to play at full release, with in-app purchases.
Whether you want to be a pay pig for disney, is up to you tho . :)

I agree that we knew it was going to happen, and I feel totally fine with it happening but again there is that level that we have to wait and see how bad it's going to be right now.

I mean it was clear from the very beginning that it will get a premium shop, literally said it from day 1. Also that it will be free 2 play was clear and that you just pay for the early access.
It's also just cosmetics you won't really need unless you really play the game on a daily basis and want to show it off later when multiplayer is added.

Making it a full price game will be worse. Not every person who wants to play it, especially since it's also a game for children, has the money to buy a 30-50$ game. Apart from this, the premium shop and star path will actually help keeping a game alive. You see what happened to animal crossing. People buy it once and then one day there will be no content anymore, because the game doesn't make a monthly income. With the pass and also the shop we can actually be happy that people will invest money into the game to keep it alive and get updates.
