one idea i've seen passed around: create a steam account for your grandkid. then use steam's family sharing to share the game to that account.

depending on how much time they have already spent, playing the game on your account, you could just use the other one for your own progress instead.

All you have to do is cloud save to one email address. Then save your grandkids game to that email address. Logout and create a new game on the local save file and then link that one to another email. Then all you have to do is go to the cloud save and change the email dependent on who's playing and it will pull up a cloud save. Only downside is if you paid for extra dlc content it'll only go to the original email you used. I did this for my son and I.

There's been issues with that. I, myself have tried that for my niece and nephews. :LamentMoonman:

You can do this using only local files and a usb stick, but it's a bit fiddly.
First copy your kids Disney Dreamlight file onto a usb. Rename it e.g. Disney Dreamlight Kids.
Then delete the steam file only from the original DDfile. Start a new game, manually save when you are done. Then copy this new DDfile separately onto the usb. Rename it e.g. DD Mine.
Delete the steam file again from the original DDfile. Go to your kids file on usb copy and paste the steam file only onto the original DDfile and play. Note: When starting the game you will be asked if you want to keep the cloud save or local, always choose the local. When finished go to you your kids file on usb delete the steam file on there, then copy and paste the steam file from the original that you just played onto the usb.
Basically, once you have the two separate files on usb, it's only the steam file that you interact with.
To recap: If your kids played, go to the usb file delete that steam file, then copy the original steam file onto usb. If you want to play delete the original steam file, then copy your usb file onto the original and play. Rinse & repeat. I have 4 separate files and yes, it is fiddly, but it can be done.

Wow that sounds complicated. I’m not sure where to find the file to delete or copy?

What exactly happened? Didn’t work or what?

The file that you would look for is generally located on the c drive. Look for Users/Your name/App data/Local Low/Gameloft/Disney Dreamlight. It's the Steam file in the DDV file that you're after.
