In February we get a new character and a new event.
In April we get a new character and a new event.
In the summer some time we're getting a new character and a new event.
Throughout the year we're getting new clothing, motifs, furniture, and decorations... which come from the events.
Once you've completed all the character quests and the event tasks, there's nothing left to do. This is a life sim and there's no "life" to live here. Don't say that I rushed the content and now I'm paying the price. I went slow in the last event and still completed everything within a couple of weeks.
As far as I can tell, the game is complete and they're just in their event cycle phase of the game and it shouldn't be early access any more. Just like any mobile game, your task is to just log in every day, tap on the new objects and collect your daily rewards. The real gameplay is the events, and the only way to complete the events 100% is to spend money, just like a mobile game.
If that's all this game is going to be, I say "no thank-you, I have enough mobile games in my life right now".
As I understand it, once it's out of early access, it'll be a f2p game. So yeah, live-service/mobile pattern.
I imagine some of the clothes/furniture/etc will also be from whichever new movies the new characters come from, not just the events.
That is just the nature of the development business. (Why it takes big developers years to come up with a new software product, even with thousands of employees)
I have yet to see a game that could out-produce the user demand for new content. I would submit that expectation might be unrealistic.
For a game like this, there are so many possible ways they could introduce repeatable daily content that actually has meaning and a use.
Just off the top of my head, they could have random characters from the movies (or even other franchises) show up in Remy's restaurant to order a meal. Fulfill their order a certain number of times and they will reward you with something. Imagine Darth Vader showing up and ordering a Fett flavored Boba tea.
You are way underestimating how hard it would be to develop new characters, get them past the Disney QA, and introduce new menu items. Then there is the problem if they only show up seated in the restaurant...a lot of players are going to be hugely disappointed (after the first sighting). So then will come the call for them to be wandering around DDV which leads to a whole new problem of creating more extensive movement and at least basic dialog like the other characters.
It would be a lot of work....just so you could fulfill an order in the restaurant. Players be scratching their heads why they bothered.
I'm also assuming there will be some generic clothing for Scrooge's store, since there's a little collection of clothes from each of the properties like that. Guess we'll see when the next character comes out.

I was just giving one example. It wouldn't be that much more to have them wander around the valley and offer a quest. They already have the basic walk animation for specific character types, you just add that to their model and, boom, done.
Basic dialog is easy. Since their release cycle is every two months, that's plenty of time to create several side characters that give a single quest. Their experienced quest designers could knock out a couple per day. They don't test anything anyway, so they won't waste time on that.
