How to go upstairs?

I know this is a silly question, but how do I go upstairs once I've upgraded my house? I couldn't get into my first room because the chimney that's auto-spawned was blocking the door and I didn't see it for a while. I finally thought that maybe it was behind something and rearranged. I only have two rooms on my house but I went ahead and upgraded from the outside. I wanted the extra storage and had the money. Now I can't get into the new upstairs level? I'm guessing that I have to complete the other two rooms in the main level before it'll let me go upstairs? But if that's the case, I shouldn't have been able to purchase the upgrade to begin with. The game should have told me that I needed to complete the first level of the house.

I figured that was the way to go up and down. But there's no option to go to another level. It just has the expand rooms option. Hence my question.

You have to buy additional floors before you can go to them.

Edit: From the elevator, click expand, then on the right click the floors tab.

I appreciate the comments but I don't think you're understanding the problem. I have one room, full size, on the original floor, along with the original main room. I went outside the house and did the upgrade to add an additional floor. So I am now supposed to have 2 floors but I still only have access to the main one. My gold is gone but I don't have the second floor. I guess I've discovered another bug? I was just wondering if I needed to add the other two rooms to my main floor. Or if I have to buy every room with every expansion for each one to then gain access to the second floor? Either way, I don't have the gold to do it.

No, you do not have to buy any other rooms. As long as your house is upgraded enough to build a 2nd floor, those other rooms don't matter. Upgrading the house does not automatically add a floor. Just like the person above said, you have to get on the elevator, click E, then when that other window opens, click on 'Add Floor' on the far right. If your house is upgraded enough, it will let you add a floor for money.

Edit on my post, when on the elevator, click E, then click "expand", there you can add another floor if your house qualifies.

I’m having this same problem. I just bought the 20,000 upgrade but can’t access my second floor or purchase any rooms for the second floor. Construction sign just prompts me to purchase the 75,000 upgrade. I should be able to access the second floor already, right?

The method to change floors is really stupid. It will still say Expand floors (even if you already expanded floors). Just go with it and the expand floors function will take you to the next floor you own. If you don't own the floor it will ask if you want to buy the floor.

The worst feature of many terrible UI features in this game. They have an inventory/recipe/clothing UI that works great if you only have like 10 items in each. Unfortunately, they designed a game with hundreds of items and the UI is designed for about 20 items max.

Also, additional floors added do not show from outside the house. I have 20 floors in my house and it looks the same as when I had one. :)

I've kind of got it figured out but I have to remember every time I try to change floors because I don't use the house much at all. You go into the elevator and into the "Expand Floors" menu. You can use your arrow keys, controller, or mouse to move a tiny line up from the "Expand" button at the bottom of the layout to underneath the floor you want to go to. Your current floor will be highlighted as yellow. It's barely noticeable which floor you're trying to select. DDV developers should change it from that tiny little line to another color that comes up as you go through the floor numbers. I'll try to get a screenshot later. I'm currently having issues with the cloud save and can't load the save from my Steamdeck to my pc.

I am playing on Steam deck and I cannot figure this out. I have 11 floors, but how do I physically move to the second floor where I have all the rooms? The options only ever let me select a room and edit the name or size. I get the line under the floor, it doesn't let me move there

I had this problem to which is how I ended up with a ridiculous amount of floors until I figured it out. Go to your elevator, press A (it should show all your floors and the expand button). Then use the left joystick to move to the floor you want to go to. It’s sometimes hard to see which floor is selected but if you keep moving around you should see the floor you selected. If you’ve purchased it you should be able to click A and go there. I took snapshots if you want me to send them to you. Good Luck!
