HELP! My save data is gone?!
I started the game just now, as I wanted to do a little bit of crop farming before I had to go to work. I clicked on continue, and all of a sudden I'm created by the Avatar creation screen?!

I alt + tabbed out of the game, restarted it, but the same thing happened again. Did I just lose 50 HOURS OF GAME PLAY?!

Have you backed up your game using Cloud? So sorry that happened to you, hopefully you'll get your saved data back, definitely put in a ticket i think it was at:
gameloft.helpshift.com
or go to settings in game then there is a help button, then it'll show you almost the same link i provided here

Yes I use the cloud :( Was playing fine yesterday evening. Only thing I encountered was that there was an error with the cloud. So I clicked retry and that worked fine.

And I put in a ticket, but it takes days for them to come back with a reply :( I really hope my game save can be saved. I'm too scared to log out of the cloud

Try right click on your game in the left panel of your library, then properties, local files, then click on the verify integrity of game files.

I'm afraid that this will break something even more :(

In a game like this that can have an enormous amount of gametime invested, I am really surprised the Devs did not add at least a 5 slot manual save option that you can continue to transfer those saves to a USB, but I am guessing that was not possible considering the structure of the save file being linked to their cloud. It is not a single file, but rather a bunch of json files in appdata Gameloft (devs) folder

A moderator in the discord channel suggested that I uninstall the game, then reinstall it, and sign into my cloud account.

But I'm worried this will delete the save file for good :(

Well, if you do reinstall it, verify the game files right after. I have had a few games that were missing files right after I dl and installed them.

I'm going to play it save and not delete anything. And wait for support to get back to me. Hopefully sooner than they're current respond rate.

On the discord channel, more people are starting to raise the same issue I'm having. But they have it on PS5

I am not sure it will make any difference because of what I mentioned earlier about how the save file is structured, but on occasion, I go in C:/user/"username"/appdata/locallow/Gameloft/Disney dreamlight valley/ and copy the Steam (bunch of numbers)_r folder and save it at another location. What I dont know is whether or not, if my current save messes up, I can just over right it with the latest save file I backed up... to fix the problem.

It should be noted that the save file structure may be somewhat different for PS4/PS5 because there is no Cloud save option for those, just continue, new game, settings and credits. I also own a copy of this game on PS4.

After some more chatting, I decided to go ahead with your prior suggestion. I'm currently reinstalling the game, and then I'll verify the game files. As someone in the discord said, the save files can't have just gone poof. And I have my cloud account.

So hopefully... when I log back in the game, I should get access to my save file

Unfortunately it didn't work. When I started the game and clicked continue, I was greeted by the avatar screen again :(

Sorry to hear about that. Like I mentioned earlier, games that have major time investment should be designed to support manual saves that you can then periodically save to a USB.

The Disney Valley cloud server keeps going in and out, the events and shop with be gone saying I'm not on the internet when I am but then work for a few mins later before disappearing again. Now I had to get a new hard drive and reinstall the game and there is no 'Continue' for my game. I made a ticket but that's 173 hours that could just be gone.
