Can multiple kids have their own game save?
Can my kids each play their own game and have their own separate saves? Or is it setup to only allow 1 play through at a time?

One account but that one account can have multiple personal characters/avatars with their own progress. It's similar to MMO games.

I'm not sure where you saw this, but if you put in New Game, it overwrites your existing avatar and game. So, no I don't believe it's possible to have more than one save file.

Yeah, this is going to be problematic (along with the actual time of day) for a LOT of people. People are not going to want to pay for each member of the family. And it's just going to cause ill will with potential players and bite them when the f2p option comes out next year.
You can make a steam account for them and family share, have been doing this now and both accounts have their own characters. If you bought the founders pack, only the basic stuff the 2nd account will get.

Was just about to suggest Family Share too.

Make each child their own Steam account, and then Family Share your games to them. Then each child will have their own save file and world. This also makes for a much smoother transition when your child is older/teen/adult.. etc.. so they can keep their own achievements, and saves, and games with them as they grow up.

we have xbox game pass. I play on console, daughter plays on PC. We play at the same time with our own unique characters and saves.

Hopefully you can find a similar workaround for your kids.
