Hardwood
Is it just me or is hardwood rare in this game... I am level 24 and have found only 34 pieces of hardwood.... I do only have one area open in the forests as I am doing the quests slowly. I do a lot of farming, fishing, foraging and cooking...

I sure would like to know if others have more hardwood in their games... or are getting it from somewhere I have not gone yet...

def not rare lol. maybe the grass and darkness of the forrest is hiding them. You can try deleting all but 4 trees and then you will always know where the falling wood is. I don't know that i would leave the forrest like that permanently but if you wanted to find some in a few min that is the way to do it. The wood will show up in a few min generaly.

Also make sure that you are picking up ALL of the wood types when foraging and not just the hardwood. The wood types have a chance of spawning (seemingly) dependent upon the biome they're located in, so it's not a set thing where if you pick up, say, three pieces of hardwood, three more hardwood will eventually drop to take their place. If you leave the softwood behind, you can easily end up with that hogging all of the wood spawning points and no room for more hardwood to drop.

It is a good idea to get into the other areas. Move your well to the blocked side of each area if you haven't yet. There is definitely plenty of hard wood. It is available in the swamp, forest, and snowy areas for sure.

Yes to me, hardwood is much more rare than softwood (which is everywhere it seems), and Kristoff does not sell hardwood either. (And his stall is later in game play.)

It is a good idea to craft some storage chests (at least those take softwood!) and start storing some things which are harder to find in the game. The blue seashell thing on the beach; hardwood; dark wood; seaweed (unless you like fishing all day when you will need 20), etc.

Hard wood is only in some Biomes and if you have deleted all your trees, or most trees, in those, it wont spawn new ones. Have to have some trees.

But what I did was I put the trees around the edges of the Biomes in most cases (the ones with ginormous trees, it won't matter, and there isn't room.) I deleted a few trees, but not enough to cause a huge impact I think, on wood spawning.

It will take 2 or 3 days after you move the trees, for it to spawn again, in my opinion. So maybe do this well in advance of quests or after you just finished one and the next quest is a ways away.

This is my observation and experience. Hope that helps.

Definitely not rare but softwood is the most common. I make a run through at least every other day to pick up all the wood. Definitely don't delete your trees.

A quicker way to gather up all the wood in the Biomes, by the way? Especially if you have all the Biomes or a lot of Biomes?

Go to furniture mode. (F key) Click the arrow to close the window of the Furniture tab. You will still be in furniture mode as far as moving things around. Zoom out a bit (mouse wheel), so you can look around easily. (Hold down the right mouse button to turn the screen. Left mouse button to sort of fling the screen around, right mouse button to turn it.)

Furniture mode will also sort of light up movable objects as your mouse (cursor) hovers over them. So as you look around, pick up any wood, one by one.

Now pick a landmark (easy to find later - the well, the market stall) and put the wood by it. All the wood you can find.

Now go back to normal mode by hitting the ESC key.

Now just go to that landmark and pick up all the wood. Go to Inventory and you can see which are which types of wood. Drop the wood you don't want or need. You will know where to find it in the future.

This way too you have just one bundle of each type of wood on the ground, vs. tons of it scattered or lined up.

It may sound obvious but I am just verifying it makes things a lot easier and faster later.

For me, it's better than walking or running around looking for scattered wood, especially in darker Biomes where you can't really tell which wood is which, besides.

Wow, thank you all for your responses. There are some really great ideas. I will try a couple and see if I can improve my method and areas of looking.

I wonder if I put some of the trees of valor trees into the peace meadow if hardwood would start dropping where it was easier to see... I might have to try that too.....Lol.

Sounds like an interesting experiment!

Wonder if there is a list of which trees drop which type of wood, anywhere?

One more question if you all don't mind, Should I be keeping stacks of the flowers that are foraged? I pretty much sell them.
Essence of Zem Oct 10, 2022 @ 9:12am
If you think you'd like to majorly decorate your valley at some point, stocking up on flowers now might be worthwhile as a lot of them are used in crafting various decor pieces (like all of those flowerbeds and potted flowers). If you're still leveling up friendships with the villagers, it's nice to have a stockpile on hand when one of them has a certain flower as a favorite gift of the day. But, the flowers are all pretty easy to find and gather whenever needed, too, so it's really up to you and however you like playing the best.

Personally, I'm keeping a stockpile. But I've got a chest set up in each biome that I dump gatherables into whenever I do a pass through to "tidy up" - so the stockpile's kind of an easy by-product of that rather than actively trying to gather up every flower.

I keep a few on hand for crafting but also daily gifts for the villagers as well. But I'm on a personal mission to craft every craftable in the game at least once. LOL. So the flowers will come in handy.

From my experience, the plaza tree's will drop all of the wood types. It is completely dependent on the zone area what you will get from the tree. Note it has to be a "tree" a shrub will not drop wood.

I personally went through all of my areas and deleted all of the trees. Then went back and put the small green plaza trees in each area. Only need like 4 but I usually go to around 7 for looks. Now I know exactly where the wood spawns will happen, and they fully re-spawn around every 90 minutes. Depending on your play times it shouldn't take long till you have a nice stack of everything. The dark wood being the hardest since there is only 1 zone you can get it.
