How much gems should I be keeping?
I am open to spoilers!

I am now just pretty much saving all my gems in case future quests need it. However, I'm really not earning enough money and I'm wondering if I should just sell them because I found they are worth more than other foraged stuff. So... is this going to be wise to do? Or should I save them up for future quests?

Thanks in advance!

I think everyone will approach the answer to this differently depending on their play style. I don't sell my gems (except Shiny ones) because I have millions of gold from farming so it doesn't seem necessary to sell them. Some of the gems are used in crafting recipes or as loved gifts for friends, but its easy enough to farm gems if you have a route that you farm once or twice a day. You can safely sell your shiny gems because I haven't seen them in any recipes so far and whenever the daily dreamlight task is "sell 1 mineral" I just sell a shiny gem, which counts. If you really need gold, you could keep a few of each type of gem and sell the rest. There's no wrong way to play this game. Just have fun.

Wow that's a lot of money! I haven't actually tried earning from farming (maybe kinda stupid of me). Maybe I should try this approach! Thanks a lot for the insight! It's also nice to know I could sell the shiny gems and that they aren't in any quests so far :)

I don't have millions (yet), but an easy accessible way to get quite fast enough money: grow carrots. You can buy them quite early on and if you are *unlucky* you only quadruple your money (seeds cost 10, one carrot sells for 44). If you got a high level gardening buddy, you can push that even further.

I know, lots of people love their pumpkins, but to get these you already gotta be quite advanced in the game. Carrots are my go to method to make money early on.

Thanks! Sounds like a good plan! I definitely haven't got pumpkins yet so carrots would do. It seems they grow quite fast as well.

I dunno, I have like 3 chests full of gems, I hoard everything and make my money selling Pumpkins, currently at 17 million coins lol

This has been my approach. There has been info released through data-mining (you can find it easy online) that the shop has assets to sell gems in the future, so I took that as we might need absurd amounts in the future (using Minnie's quest as a precursor.) That also being said, this is Gameloft.........

I sell my gems occasionally when I want a bunch of cash. If I have 10 of something I sell 5. I do so much mining it is not hard for me to replace what I sell.

I don't think it is a big deal either way. There is no reason to hoard items on the game, since you can easily get more of them. My general rule for all items, is I try to keep one stack of them. After I have a full stack in a chest some where, I just sell the rest.

If you just save everything, you are going to have nothing but chests and when new quests come out you will just complete all of them in a day and have nothing to do.

I keep 1 full stack of everything (even flowers) and sell the excess. The only thing I hoard is the coal. I keep a full chest ( so 20 stacks of 50 for whatever math ).

Edit: I also hoard shards.

If you have extra gems and flowers you can get a good friendship boost if you gift them to villagers

You can give flowers from 2-10 in very little time. just gather and gift one after another. It think it took maybe 5 min of flower giving to get Ariel to max level. I did this with both of the water characters and 5 min may be over stating it a bit. Very easy. Nothing in this game takes longer than a few minutes.

I can only say what I did and it seemed to work okay.

At first I kept all gems mined, in a storage chest.

I began to see some were wanted in quest fulfillment. I noticed which those usually were. I think aquamarine came up a lot and then I also seem to remember garnet, citrine and emerald.

I also noticed that the Shiny version of gems were not called upon so I sold all those once I realized that and finally had some 'spending money' for my av in the game. :steamhappy:

At this point I am keeping the ones that accrued for a little while (5 to 10 of each gem; I still sell any new Shiny gems) and besides that I am selling all gems I get. I need the money...

I have also begun 'farming' so buying seeds takes money. In some veggies even the seeds cost a lot of money. Right now my in game coin is about 30 or 35k which is not that much considering how much I've played. But it seems to go out as fast as it comes in...

I bought some clothes but just the cheap ones. My ideal price for Scrooge's store items is always 3 digits (I bought a couple or few items in low 4 digits), 360 or 390 game coin.

Then the rest of it went to opening wells, stands, improving various buildings etc.

Take an NPC whose task is mining, with you, in Hang Out mode, they will often give you extra gems when you mine.
