Be careful with your dream shards!

Without too many spoilers, all my characters are locked in/whole town is on lockdown and I need dream shards to finish the quest, but I have no way of getting them.
So don't use your dream shards, save them for these types of quests. Silly me forged some of mine into a crystal to try it out.
So now I can't do anything in-game other than the basic stuff of mining, fishning and such, but no characters or quests.

Same here, why is this even a thing. HOW is this FUN? I was having such a good time with the game but this stuff ruins it for me. I will not wait for days. I'll just call quits then until a fix or if not ever. Again why are these type of mechanics in games at all, who sees that and thinks, OO YES SO FUN!!

I found that if you give animals their favourite food you always get a dream shard! That's how I got my last one. I fed a rabbit a carrot. And since then I have fed a bunch and seem to always get one. However rabbits are very annoying lol. The easiest ones are the turtles along Dazzle Beach.

Their favourite food is seaweed. You can have a high chance of getting it if you fish not in a fishing spot. Just cast your line and it will either be seaweed or a common fish of that area.

Also, if you have the Valor Forest unlocked you can feed the Raccons blueberries, which are in the forest so it's pretty easy. Though in my experience they are also as bad as the rabbits lol. You might have better luck though xD

This should be pinned. I was wondering what their favourite foods were. I mean, rabbits were easy to figure out, the other ones not so much.

Ah, glad to see it's not just me. I am also stuck in the quest where everything, including the shop is blocked and I need dream shards. Dream Shards should be removed as crafting materials. They rarely drop so the game shouldn't allow the player to easily spend them!!

I actually started over because I ran into this same problem. I just kept the 40 shards that I started with and finished the quest easily. Others may not want to start over, but it worked for me, and now I'm far beyond where I was the day before. Your mileage may vary, but it's an option.

I've done the same ^_^ I restarted my game, but I was around 20 hours of gameplay in, so I'm not quite where I were :p But I must say, that I enjoy the restart and I do progress much faster of course.

Gameloft has acknowledged the problem and said that they are going to increase the drop rate in an upcoming update (but they gave no ETA).

I guess I am lucky that I was frugal with mine and only crafted one of the items that you can craft from dream shards and that is asked for in one of the quests.

i think squirrels like raspberry, because i get a shard from them. i hope i get not one the same point as you guys. because i did the same thing as you accidently. crafted 40 shards for nothing >.<

I normally save everything too, but I hit the wrong arrow and crafted them all by mistake very early on -_- Didn't think about it since I figured that I would just get more. Guess not, hehe.
But its all good... Its EA and I'm having a blast with my restart and having much better luck with dropped items ^_^

I just had an entirely different, although related issue. I had been saving all my shards up. I upgraded my house during the quest and the locker with my shards just disappeared. I have no shards and all the gems I was saving are gone. They are still in my crafting inventory, but I cannot access them to take them out.

Hi all!

Sorry to see issues with using up your shards - we recommend that you use your Dream Shards wisely! We granted all players on launch access to 40 Shards. We do not recommend players to use these to unlock realms/biomes by converting them to Dream Dust. You should ideally save your Dream Shards for quest requests, and use Dream Dust earned through daily objectives to unlock realms/biomes.

One thing I personally find help is to put your Dream Shards in the chest in your home for safekeeping!

That said, we really appreciate the feedback regarding the difficulty of their collection and spawn times!

Easy now! Its EA and we are testing the features. Also, you should expect everything to be handed to you. Its quite normal for these type of games to have grind.
And I'm saying all this as someone who restarted my game after 20 hours gameplay because of this problem.

It's not a "feature" it's a clear pay to win attempt that will obviously get worse. Plenty of other games survive without multiple currencies and caps, it's pure greed and it will ruin this game if they push too far.
