Critters not unlocking in Collection

I was able to unlock two squirrels at the beginning but no other critters are getting added to the collection even after feeding them their favorite foods. I've given rabbits carrots and turtles seaweed but they don't get added to the collection. Is this a known bug?

I don't think its a 100% chance. It sometimes takes a few tries for me. Seems to be hit and miss.

The only animal that's bugged right now is the Orchid Sunbird. It's not able to be added to the collection using it's favorite food. The devs are aware of it and the fix will hopefully be in the next patch/update. For all the other animals, it takes multiple feedings as DemonDice mentioned. Usually 2 feedings but it can be more and does appear to be a bit random. I have 8 animals left to collect and some of those are only available one day a week, so it's taking a bit of time to collect them all.

Ok, so the thing with the animals is that there are different varieties--basically just different colors--of each animal. I do not know how many varieties of each animal exist. You unlock an animal to be a companion once you've fed *that color* of the animal two times, and it only unlocks that color of the animal.

What's happening is that you've been unlucky and have been feeding animals but haven't managed to feed the same variety/color of rabbits, etc., twice.

Oh wow I didn't realize you had to feed more than once to unlock. Thanks all for the insight, this is very helpful and wasn't super obvious!

Sometimes it's instant, but most of them depending on the rarity is harder to unlock. I've got all the squirrels and rabbits. Just working on the others. I found that the Orchid Sunbird is not happy with Orange colored flowers, so I'm going to try Purple next time.

But you can add the Orchid Sunbird as a pet (even if you don't get favorite reward from it) just by using orange houseleeks, I fed it 2 times and got it as a pet today on the 2nd feeding.
