Didn't notice any downgrade in the demo.
perhaps some screenshot comparisons would help us see your point if you wouldnt mind.
Yup, I played through the entire original version. And no, I did not notice any significant downgrade. If there are downgrades, it's too small to even care about.
You can see in the "redux" the lighting is bland, there's no depth, no ambient occlusion, objects almost radiate their own glow thus giving them a harsh outline to the rest of the room. Materials look better, more depth, but are ruined by the lighting. The smoke and godrays are completely neutered, feels less cyberpunk and more bright sci fi. Like I said before, this isn't the only thing that changed, the strobing light from the lockdown alarm is gone (which would take more work to remove ironically lol). The first dream eater is neutered also, which *might* be because it's a demo, I'm not sure.
Lighting in general so nerfed down in redux, a lot of places where original had dynamic shadows now it has prebaked static shadow, many instances of real dynamic lights of rooms was replaces with cheap post process effects that simply coloring whole screen - the wors example is when you exit Adam room into corridor after lockdown - when you meter away from opened door you can see that corridor has normal lighting with white walls, but when you moved closer game fades into red color to imitate red lights, and if you will turn around and lool into adam apartments they will also get colored in red!
in original they actually used real light sources! Alsos when you quit adams room and go to left there is a door to next section - in original there is a true red dynamic light that lits entire room, and cast door shadows on floor.
In redux you only has this cheap red color grading applied to everything to fake lighting.
And this cheap color grading transition is now used everywhere and looks less realistic than original! natural dynamic colors and lights replaced with this artistic crap cheap color grading that does not even fades in naturally and reminds 2005-2010 games like RAGE which cheaply applied color grading of different color in different rooms so you can see through doors how color of entire room changes once you enter.
They also addeed volumetric fog everywhere but its has some conditional triggers and dissapears at notable distances and when you enter\exit rooms and building, for example when you get to 2nd floor balcony, you open door and see street with rain and there is no fog yet, you move out of door to balcony and fog suddenly appears!
And there is so much of this volumetric fog, its so overused and looks so unrealistic!!!!
Also they dowgraded bloomigh lights from all light sources! in original they all had quite naturall smooh blooming aura around them and you can tell that this thing is lit - now its all gone or so minor you can see some pipe looking things that suppose to be light sources but you cant see them actually to be lit!
Displays of computers and advertisings snd the augumented vision overlays also lost theri glow, and now looks like flat textures rather than holographic or led displays and neon lights, also lack of glow on computers makes text barely readable, its dark brown on black now
Lighting in many rooms looks so unrealistic now due of recuded number of light sources per scene, misaligned placement of lights that does not always match a visible source, reduced number of shadow casters, nerfed blooming lights, added unrealistic color grading and fog everywhere.
And thats not it, i have not seen any promised 4k textures but i saw several instances of reduced texture quality.
Even improved models looks weird because their lighting was definetly less realistic and more flat, which despite added polygons makes new models looks less impressive than old did. Also somehow new models looks less creepy - for examply janitor does not lool that machine and soulless as he did before, he is not like regular guy with implants,
And speaking about janitor - in original he has many lightsources casting on him and blending smooth shadows in his room - now its all gone.
And his face is now so puffy fat and cute, he does not look as creepy as before.
Headless body in Adam room on the other hand does not even look like improved model, it looks more like downgrade.
Also there is a buggy incorrect HDR implementation that screwing up lights and shadows and bloom even more.
Im making video comparison, to highlight how game was actually downgraded and hope devs will rework it all and restore all the advanced things they lost.
If they call it a next gen upgrade for new consoles it just sad... i wish they add extra story content to original game because i prefer its more realistic and graphically more advanced look than this consolish downgrade.
demo is a slice of full game, if they would ignore complains same crap would be in full game
Apparently they are still working on the engine, specifically at least the RT implementation, which interests me.
its a clear downgrade in many aspects, graphics now in general looks less realistic and less eye pleasant, less immersive, and original version grpahics and many assets are more preferable... they managed to ruin almost everything, even logo of game, which does not match style of other fonts and game theme in general...
but before ill finish my video, ill make series of screenshots with description, or maybe i will upload a series of short comparisions to save time.
You might want to wait until the production version ships. It's clear they are still working on the engine as RT isn't even available in the demo and will be in the final version. They could also be finishing up other aspects of the engine as well. I wouldn't assume quite yet that this is going to be final state of the game. Lets all just calm down and wait to see what comes when it launches.
