I've come to vastly prefer her skill path over her Thorns path, personally. I had my doubts at first, but it actually allows her to work quite well as a support character who's also an okay tank.
i dont like that talent, it feels like a massive trap.
How do you do it? Have a strong support and decent team comp.
I was playing with a friend and this was out team comp.
Bree - Queen of Thorns
Thorn based build and traits to boost torns.
For gear i had a basic mace, Samurai Armor (replaced Yimirs shield because needed to survive hits better), Forest Crown, Strong Mojo for Regen and Dispel. Champy Beaver for Palisade.
Thuls - Wide Sleeves
Poison and Small Weapons build.
For gear i had Helblade for marks and bonus marks in perks, then just poison items. and Slime pet with upgrade to add vuln to it.
Cornelius - The wildcard
My friend took Mana Loop and Kassanddra's Mirror in the last act for fun and it was really hectic but did good damage in general. The usual Burn style build.
Nezglekt - Chtulu mind healer
Pretty stndard build for him items and cards but he had a Hydra egg for more regen.
Just damaged to healed from insanity an it worked well enough. Also kept us purged of bad stuff.
This was it out buid, nothing special really and this was the 2nd time i beat the final boss with Queen of Thorns Bree. So it def is doable just make sure you bring good support with her either via bard or strong healers. Voodoo lady is also a good match for Bree.
So yeah i dont think Queen of Thorns is a trap and ill never see myself pick anything but it from here on, loved the fun i had with Bree and it. Just remember team comp makes the difference for more tricky characters.
In general I find they are the most reliable method to "heal" since they do not suffer from overheal issues, only very rarely get purged, are reasonably efficient mana-wise, protect from one-shots or one-rounding and make sure your party always starts combats on full base HP.
Bree even has another reason to use low or zero block and mostly tank with her HP with her Stampede ability (which is extremely strong against groups and still nice to have against single bosses).
Her only problem is likely Lord Henshack, in which his Disintegrate can put you into some really dangerous health. Otherwise, she can survive pretty much anything with the right build, all the way into final boss.
However, if you go Thorns Queen, her final damage dealt will be shot skyhigh, and likey placed second in rank for the total damage dealt at the final combat log.
Edit: Thorns Bree works really well against the final boss too because of the amount of hits he does every turn. In the later rounds Bree can inflict thousands of damage, especially if you are brave enough to toss up a well timed taunt :P
