Controllers sucks, specially if you grew up playing on a keyboard. If I buy a controller someday, it will probably be a mixbox or hitbox, and that's about it. No sticks, no analogs.
By the way, a suggestion to make Goldlewis playable on pads and keyboards would be simply to turn his inputs into quick circles, instead of half circles. This would make him A LOT easier.
Heck, I could do Gamma Ray and Necro's Anger (pretzel input) on keyboard back in the GGXX Red Reload PC days.
Most of the time it boils down to just doing the input first and making sure the last direction button you pressed and the corresponding attack button are pressed at the same time.
With games like Tekken and Electric Wind-God Fist you press the direction first and then the attack button after, but those kind of inputs are infrequent, and you can usually get away with Negative Edge inputs.
I do agree with OP. Every sinlge character must be playable with most gaming devices.
If you accept this goldlewis abomination then maybe Arcsys make a new character that can only be operated with a steering wheel controller.
He is playable with every device, keyboard, arcade stick, pad and hitbox/mixbox
it might be harder for some folks to play him on one or the other, it might be OPs keyboard that is the issue, or just that he hasn't practiced enough. Baccpack, being one of the best GL, plays on a mix box, with WASD keyboard keys on his stick in place of the lever. Sajam, on ladder called Terry Typhoon, plays on an arcade stick and does pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ well.
Plenty of people play on pads and keyboards, it's a matter of making sure your gear is up to snuff (as in your keyboard doesn't have ghosting issues) and practicing enough.
Something that you should also take into consideration, looking at your bad take in the Ky/Chipp input discussion. People play with many types of controllers even at the higest levels, and no one seems to complain there about those things
It's like when a game says they recommend you play on a controller, it's still playable on keyboard but they recommend controller cause its what it was designed for or is better on. Kinda like a fighting game is designed for a arcade stick since they release on arcades at the same time as pc and console.
So making a character that is UNPLAYABLE for keyboard users is nothing but disrespect for PC audience. It is not acceptable.
Arcsys should design character's input the way it could work on every device with same
efficiency. The only difference between players should be their skill, not difference in what device type they using.
Input device choice is about selecting what is most comfortable or most efficient for you to use. If the device didn't matter, the Hitbox arcade controller wouldn't exist.
You may not like it but no matter what certain games will play better depending on your input device.
The most they could do to change it is to make almost every input a quarter circle which people have been complaining about ever since this game came out.
False. As you see we have this behemoth typhoon things which is perfectly managable to be done on both keyboard keys as it is on a stick, pads analogue stick and d-pad, as well as on other controllers. And OP might have a rough time adjusting to inputs or have a hardware issue with his keyboard, which is understandable cause learning good buffering and clean inputs isn't easy at the beginning, and technical issues outside of the game can happen.
So they made a character that might have a steeper learning curve for execution for some, which is fair, it's the fun of fighting games, learning and improving to beat your opponents.
Arcsys clearly took their time in the design process to do something new for a GG title with his inputs, making it an interesting design that can be enjoyed with some work put in.
You literally can't make sure that character will work on "every device" with the same exact efficiency as even xbox and ps4 pads are different and people will get a different level of efficiency on their d-pads or analogue sticks cause of their placement. Each keyboard model is slightly different, your layout on it will affect efficiency as will change in switches present in the keyboard
The efficiency with which you use the device you have or chosen is your skill.
Goldlewis is actually easier on key operated devices like keyboard, mixbox or hitbox rather than on a stick or d-pad according to most Goldlewis players (who in majority use key based controllers) cause pressing W-A-S is quicker and easier than racking your stick in a half circle from top to bottom.
Take care, practice more, stop whining.
