Apologies for reusing an old thread, but given two years has passed I was wondering what people's opinions are of both games? I bought Spacehaven in December, following it since it was announced, and I must admit I was very disappointed. It got samey way too quickly, and was limited compared to say Rimworld and ONI, which I love and still keep coming back to.

Discovered Spacedues yesterday by chance, and even more pleased to see it has a demo. Hats off to the devs for doing that. My first impression is it seems more complex than Spacehaven, and that it has more mechanics and things to do. Not sure what I feel about not being able to control the crew. Only 30 mins in so far.

So are things pretty much as they were in 2022. or has either game significantly changed or improved since then? Do people tend to prefer this over Spacehaven, both, or neither?

I have both games, I think this game has a brighter future, and have enjoyed playing it more than Space Haven. Both need more work into them before we can definitely decide, but I think Stardeus will end up being better.

Same for me. Space Haven while more relaxing than stardeus lacks any real "goal". And since you only deal with few types of resources its not hard to set up everything needed quickly. In turn making game pretty uninteresting to play due to how little there is to do. And it doesnt help updates are pretty slow for it.

Stardeus is more like Rimworld in comparison. Since the storyteller throws events unpredictably even when things are stable it can quickly end in disaster. I mean, literally not long ago I lost 3 drones and 2 colonists to a fkin 1 roomba breacher raid because its battery detonated dealing around 190-ish damage to all nearby... More resources to keep track of, more complex chains of production etc. gives much MUCH more to do. So to me atleast Stardeus is much better than Space Haven. Plus, dev seems to be much more active and interested in feedback players provide

I like Stardues for the level of attention to detail over system mechanics. If I want to set my thermal system to be uninhabitable I can, Space Haven doesn't let me do that really. On the other hand, Space Haven does have those nifty "Airlock Doors" that let pawns dawn a spacesuit automatically when passing through and undawn it automatically when coming back out, so that's one of my kinda-sorta wishlist features on down the road for Stardues. But Stardues is more mathematical than Space Haven, which is kinda underdeveloped in comparison. I agree with the others that Stardues is more...Rimworld, where Space Haven is more Space Opera.

I agree. Both is the correct answer. :D

I played a bit of space haven before I ever heard of is game. I didn't like it much. it felt fiddly and very artificially constrained somehow...
I also didn't like that they focused very early in development on slave collars... I know this is a personal thing, but it turned me off in terms of immersion.

I've played Space Haven in 2020 when it got out. I was very exited by the game and liked it very much. But, as it was pointed out in this very thread, updates were very slow and I immediately realised that they were not pushing the game in the right direction at all. So much that I got angry and actually got banned from their forums voicing my opinion on the matter.

This is now 2024 and judging from what I read here, it has not even evolved much if at all from 4 years ago. To say that I am greatly disappointed would be an euphemism. Unless they actually add something interesting at long last instead of more grind for the sake of slowing the game down, keep looking at Stardeus. It is already better than Space Haven right now IMHO.
