Building robots
So since the update, how do you actualy build robots. is it normal that they come with most parts missing out of the box? how do you actualy animate them? buy a core and put it in a dead bot or how? the skill to build cores is waaay down the tectree and you can build carriers and rombas relativly early.(my bots keep ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up cleaning the toilet so it always explodes...and nobody cleans). So whats up with that?!

You need to buy or build cores, and load them with minds, sometimes you get lucky and a robot core with a mind preinstalled will be available at space stations but you may need to look around, also you will need to install the other pieces, but in general early to mid game the hardest parts to produce successfully are cores and batteries; every other neccessary part is unlocked for production around the same time as the Assembly Hub (the device needed to install parts), Cores and batteries are advanced parts, think of what the factories produce as the "Frame" of a robot, onto which you install parts with the Assembly Hub.

Also about the cleaning part; I'd say a storage facility seems to help prevent that, it seems the toilets explode most when there's nowhere to store the removed biowaste.

Thanks for answering that. i have a recycler not working 24/7 so there should be place to deposit the biowaste.
i find this new way to make bots way to complicated. at least for rombas. they dont do anything but clean or can they fight like the other bots?

With Asimov override you can arm them with guns.

Think of new way of doing bots as of assembling frame first and then filling it with modules.
Also remember to not recycle your starting dead robots, I found that it is very easy to get parts for them quite early. Only research is a bit pain in the arse...

how do you load cores with minds.

You need a Magic Mind Transfer Machine. Extract brains or cores from corpses of your crew and put them in as a source.

Oddly enough, it deletes the core/brain u use as a source. A pity, I wouldn't mind making few copies of my best colonists.

So when uploading a mind to a core, it creates a clean slate?

How do you make it a specific core... like a cleaning bot core. Each different robot seems to have a specific core type so I assume they require the core to be aligned with whatever frame it's put in. How do you make that happen?

A clean empty core works straight out of the fabricator, if you just want a robot. You don't need the mind transfer thingy to get it to work. I've installed cores into my robots/drones without even researching the mind transfer. I'm guessing the mind transfer is just to keep the skills and experiences.

I in general prefer the "empty cores". I create one, pop it into a frame so it gets a name, then pop it out and its into the machine learning machine for the skills for its purpose. As a result I have two teams of construction bots with high mining and since they were never human minds they don't bring along that sanity problem. The only downside is there appear to be some jobs that they can't do unless its a human sourced mind.

On that note, it would be super useful to see in the jobs description in the bot why they are "incapable" of some work. I know its from traits sometimes and others from bot parts used. Would be great to quick mouse over and know if its something I can fix.

But is not possible to transfer a "dead" brain of a colonist into a core, right?

AFAIK you can't. The brain usually outlives the corpse long enough to be put in storage, but once the brain has a fatal wound, all you can do with it is send it to the Nutrient Extractor (which will usually be done automatically).
