I am changing my recommendation to no. Basic playability issues that have been known and still not addressed.

1.) Can't use a touchpad mouse as this game requires an actual mouse. Fine, whatever. After a couple of months, I purchased a Bluetooth mouse for this game. It didn't help me and now I'm irate.
2.) There are arrow games that have a timer that is unreasonably fast, at least with the crappy mouse I now have. One you have to shoot some ladies with an arrow, but you also have to remove the arrow. The game is so clunky that getting the angle to remove the arrow is tough, and then re-aiming, at least with my mouse, is incredibly difficult. While the time might not be impossible, I tried twenty times and failed. That's just not fun. The second portion of the story line is gated behind the ability to shoot things with arrows. The apples I get close, but I haven't succeeded yet and the fact the screen lags and jerks while aiming really causes both misses and motion sickeness. My machine isn't the fastest, but it's also not a trash machine. The game shouldn't be this jerky and it impacts game play.

3.) The actual acts of fun are bugged. When you want to "train" the women, there are two modes. Both have difficulty hitting, but one is impossible depending on what you're using. On the other you have to aim at the sky or something to hit the bottom so you can't even see what you're doing. It's been a while now, and this is just ridiculous. It's been posted about and the devs have failed to take action about this key part of the game for months.

Make the game timers more reasonable. Making "training" more aim-able and making the darn tools work for training. I would think this would be simply, but it hasn't happened yet and the game is not fully playable without it.

I paused before purchasing after I saw the negative reviews and then I scratched my chin as they stayed confusingly mixed. I’ll update as I get further in the game but I think I know enough now.

What is game play like?: You start with a rough tutorial that can see you purchasing a slave or two in the first few minutes. You can be distracted by this or continue on with the fetch quests for different Roman citizens. I have to say that I’m not a fan of the questing. Apart from playing on a mousepad where most things are doable but probably 10 times harder, the conversations make little sense. They’re long winded, can be wtf level of rude to the people you’re talking to, and they don’t make sense based on normal human (or at least English) social norms. This makes making choices confusing and challenging as you’re not really role playing but trying to figure out the right script to move the quests forward. Hint: use the walkthrough guide..

Let’s talk about x play. The x set-up always starts in missionary and not whatever you previously played. You have sliders for how quickly and roughly you move, and as you unlock skills based on punishments you can use the skill points to unlock positions. The gameplay here is to click the space bar faster than the slaves endurance is drained. Beating the bar means you then p your um on the slaves body. By holding down the mouse button and then you gain affection (and slave value) because that’s how people work. There is no female satisfaction, only the male’s. It would have made more sense to me to build affection via a female organism, but okay.

Honeyselect 2 does this right (after a ton of mods to fix the game) and I’d have preferred that this game took some notes.

Punishment: There are different options to chose from from public humiliation, to whippings, to a wooden stick insertion. Amazingly the wooden stick insertion is the most effective for increasing fear and getting screams of terror. If you select whipping then there are a number of tools that can be used, after purchase, and you can select first person or third.

First person allows all tools but I couldn’t aim anything where I wanted and it was clunky as heck on my mouse pad, but also wuick of grinding. Third person allowed more aim and control although most marks only show up on the bottoms. Also, only the whip is usable as the other tools didn’t work. Unless you pause the third person view has enough time, but the first person view can fly by in seconds. Which is good because you can have issues targeting and actually hitting and that can eat up a good part of your time limit. I would have thought that the slaves endurance would determine how many hits they could take, instead it determines how much time they can stand there between hits (as far as I can tell)

Graphics: Did the patches fix the graphics? I don’t know. Compared to visual novels, honey select 2, Daz models, these are really really rough. And dated.

Slave reactions/communications: The slaves have fixed personalities or stories that are not impacted by the level of fear/punishment or affection. Hs2 does this well and I was hoping for a little more here.

I found a number of features: you can buy toys, sell slaves, customize slaves (some and sorta as I couldn’t change the weight or chest size of one of my purchases for some reason) , and expand the size of the dungeon based dollars and reputation.

I’d this the full unlocked game? I don’t know. Some features are locked behind completing the main quest. It appears the answer is at least “mostly yes” as far as I can tell.

Overall impression: If you’re into this I can recommend. It’s clunky, ugly, the dialogue is mostly bad, but it’s the only game in town. It kinda has a story with the various fetch quests, but the most interesting part of the game for most is buggy or boring . I don’t find joy in spacebar mashing and I think the ability for people to climax should be there for everyone. Still, I’ve exceeded my four hours return window poking around and I’ll label “entertaining enough” particularly if it’s on sale. I have a huge list off things I think would make the game exponentially better, but it is what it is.

Ultimately I understand the mixed reviews. It’s about expectations and I would keep the expectations at a barebones level. The game reads like people learning to code and without a top down design plan when creation started. It also seems like they created everything from ground up when I suspect a lot of off the shelf options could have been used to expedite things. I also doubt the writers are native English speakers or they REALLY need an English teacher to help with their storytelling and story/people logic. Programing and game design is not my world, and I could be very off base but that’s my impression I’m left with based on the little I know of software development.

In the end I can give this a hesitant recommendation.

I will add a note of appreciation that the devs were trying to make things right after their disaster launch. They focused heavily on communication, and this isn’t something a lot of people do. So kudos to them for attempting to own and fix.

The graphics in the game are very ugly, completely different from the screenshots, even on Epic settings. It looks like a game from 2007. The game has weird animations, camera is also very weird, especially in the sex scenes. Some slaves have boob textures that show through their clothes, it doesn't look very good! Same thing with futa. The lighting in the game is also broken, it is too dark at night, shadows are not always displayed. The hair on all the NPCs seems to hang in the air, it looks like a bad mod for some game. Most slaves look so ugly that you don’t even want to buy them. The hand textures look terrible when slaves have their hands behind their backs, they stretch out and look unnatural. The whole game looks like some kind of pre-alfa.

I feel dirty after buying this game....Not because its good, but i feel scammed!

I really want to like this game, so hope they will fix it.

(Update) ....So a few days further after buying the game....Yes they fixed some graphics issues, but nothing really to rave about.
Most of the quests are still bugged.... plus with every update they make my slaves look different and their skin don't match their genitals and lost most of their value stats

To say this is a full game is in my eyes a lie!....This seems like a beta version.
But most of the quest givers say after 5 tasks its over and to come back in later time ( in updates i guess)....i mean???

The comments show that the game's premiere was a real disaster (a real Roman drama). I waited a few days while the developers added a lot of fixes. There was even a thread on the forum where they claimed that the game was in the final version (not early access), so I decided to check it out.
And what I saw was a very poor walking simulator. The map is poorly designed, the character models are only correct (nothing special). The quest mechanics are blocked (scripts do not complete tasks). Overall, it's bad and the product looks like an alpha state.

I took a chance on the mixed reviews and right now the game is a no, here is why:
1. They have controller support but only partial, and it ended up being too clunky I switched back to mouse and keyboard.
2. You're thrown into the world so orientation takes a while to figure out. I found out by chance that I already had a home, and the dungeon was actually mine, and I also had a wife... go figure! The game needs better storytelling for the beginning of the game where it's more natural to be introduced to the world.
3. Cool down for when a slave can be sent out on a mission is unclear and you get a kinda passive-aggressive message if you try and send them out too early
4. The gameplay is boring, the sex and punishment part is kinda boring. The punishment part is the most interesting both in third- and first-person mode, but the sex is just choosing a position and then smashing a button until climax, and if you're lucky the camera won't be locked in a akward possiton behind a pillar or something blocking the view.
5. Patreon only locked content and even a pop-up begging you to sign up for that... How about no?

It has an interesting concept and setting but the execution right now is not worth the price.

Fun game. Only complaint is that I wish there was a option to have a husband instead of a wife. Especially if you are playing as a female.

ok so this game has rough edges and the launch wasn't so smooth it seems. I wanted to wait a bit, it's not like it's a competition or the end of the world, it is expected to have problems in the beginning. However, the developers seem to care a lot about their game and community and there have been daily updates.

About the game now, in an industry filled with visual novels and empty tech-demos, this game is actually more than ok, it has potential, but please give us gladiator fights and emperor orgies. Imagine a sex game being more real than "normal" games like the days before. Sex system could require a bit more polishing but there is a lot to discover. Graphics are ok but there are some clipping, broken textures, weird animations. Is it definitely not next-gen. Sound is great, many npcs have voices.

I enjoy the not so serious and a bit satirical tone of the dialogues and stories, they remind me of hercules xena tv series, not great, not terrible. So, I came here for sex and stayed for the romans

The game was pretty much unplayable for me at launch and i was dissapointed but the devs put in a lot of work rather quickly and as of this review the game is playable and the missions are fun,Since launch every few days weve been getting improvements and patches so like i said the devs are really taking this seriously and im impressed with there dedication to this game.

I had to refund the game unfortunately. This title looks very promising but sadly at the time of this review the game is all bones and no meat.

All the pieces of a fantastic slave trainer/trading game are here: Perfect setting, a marketplace for buying/selling slaves and supplies, a dungeon under your home to keep slaves, interactive sex and punishment, slave customisation, quests, skill progression, slave jobs outside the dungeon, even base upgrades and mini games!

There are so many great elements trying to be implemented in this game, but I found almost all aspects to be lacking. Animations feel stiff and lifeless and your character constantly runs when moving around. Physics are off; your character almost super-jumps and body parts move strangely. Lots of really anti-immersive additions, like bright, fiery, glowing signs above traders heads and locations. There's a mini-map which isn't expandable and doesn't adequately explain what all of its icons mean or really convey any useful information. Most NPC lines are fully voice acted, but quite poorly in most cases. Sex scenes are very customisable, however the act itself involves spamming the spacebar in order to "arrive" before your partner's stamina is depleted - and I mean it, you really have to hammer your spacebar a lot just to successfully complete the scene.

Graphically the game is also hit and miss. The models are all very noticeably similar regardless of skin colour or hairstyle - there are a lot of sliders for customising your slaves, but everyone in the world is exactly the same height and hair and clothing options are very limited. The lighting looks better in the screenshots than in reality even with all settings maxed.

Slaves of Rome has just about everything I could hope for in a game of this type, but still manages to disappoint in almost all categories. I know the developer is committed to making a good game; they're releasing bug fixes and updates often which is commendable. I truly hope they continue to improve the game and I wish them the best of luck as they are *so* close here. If they are able to resolve the complaints I listed above then I would definitely come back to this game.
