I play on Legend as well, and these posts about it being hard to play on Easy and Normal difficulties are sad really. For Day 1 on Legend, all you need is 2 shredders and it's very easy. Use a prefab building (I typically make my first little camp on the roof of the garage beside Research Center) and put your two shredders beside the building. Make sure you can crouch down to reload them, and if not build a small floor piece high enough Z's can fit under but you can still reload the trap. Day 1 has no jumpers, so just watch for the spitters and Day 1, even on Legend is a cake walk.
Any of you guys that are having trouble, feel free to join the Official Discord. There's people in there to help with strategies and can often give better explanations with screen shots and things like that.
Don't know, I think that this game and it's tutorial can be distracting and wasting your time with things that are not overly useful for waves, the trap suggestions are awful usual and u spend lots of time focusing on things that distract you. So I can definitely understand if people who play the first time have problems with first days even on lower difficulties. But I think it's just good to make a few experiments and they quickly show u what is efficient and what is not so much.
And i play higher than legendary , means max 100 % for all zombie stuff including speed.
But i unterstand the thematic about it. There are beginners with a barely scrap of knowledge about the game, starting it, and can´t live with the trial and error system (When the game comes out i startet on legendary from beginning in solo and played a simple trial by error, often getting problems over the days, due to resource problems and than start after Day 15 or 20 , again from Day 0 ). So there hate to fail, which ends up to leave the game.
And there are players on the other hand, which have tons of gaming hours a lot of knowledge and are kind of bored about the low max. difficult of the game.
And so far there seem be no real solution for all that, because due to the massive changes and implementation of new stuff, u always destroy and mess around with any old Difficult u had before. I mean how much difficult change it was to including multiple Resource Gain in certain areas. Before that u had only *1 resources for all and everywhere, making it much harder to get a lot of resources. Or take the Including of the Drones ,which makes a lot of automation and drasticly influences the complete economicly expansion part of the Player.
Yes, for sure. The tutorial is quite bad and doesn't really steer you towards being ready first night. The OP stated he had played before, so I figured he knew that you need to get yourself ready for night time right away which means doing things to unlock the trap machine. For people playing first time, I'd recommend playing tutorial mode (normal) and make it to Day 15-20, then start over and play something with at least a little challenge to it like Survival maybe. I bet people will be getting side tracked with these new followers now too.
Yeh, compressor is ok, but twin shredders are much faster to get them killed. I've beat the game on 3800% and it's really not much different than Legend. Only thing is the Giants, but they are the primary problem regardless. Take so much resources to kill the game becomes all about mats for Giants. This game is about trying a strategy, learning how it does and starting over. When game first came out, we'd tell people to start on Tutorial Mode (normal) and make it to Day 25, then move up to Hard and keep repeating. Base designs that work on Normal, don't necessarily work on Survival and things that work on Survival don't necessarily work for Legend, so you would have to improve.
Resources have always been a problem, as they are in any survival game. The game is much, much easier now days than it was a couple years ago. Game is very easy now, yet people still complain that it's hard. The tutorial is probably the thing that makes it seem hard to new players. Tutorial is definitely terrible and should be completely redone.
and this is the truth about this game, it's that a lot of skilled players come here to play NOTD. so many people play on legend and complain that it's too easy that's why devs are always trying to make the game harder, like by limiting resources and such, because they don't know how else to increase the challenge at this point.
skilled people play this game and say it's too easy. unskilled players play on normal and say it's too hard. :D
so i don't know. to me the game seems too easy but i also always play on easy LOL. i also have a lot of time into the game so i know a lot about it, which makes it a lot easier to me as well.
personally i think the game has a learning curve and it's a bit difficult for new players to succeed. the tutorial helps them
on the other hand i think the skilled players still have a hard time finding a challenge in the regular gameplay and the devs struggle to provide them with one. however, the fact that a lot of skilled players stay here for so long playing it is because it's probably one of the best challenges they get out of a game. i mean, this is an easy game concept to understand but it can be difficult to execute, because you have to execute a working plan each night, not like 7 days where you have a whole week to prepare.
as for the tutorial, you can turn it off. you can disable the radio chatter and ignore the quests if you want. it doesn't really need redone, it's been redone a dozen times now. it's a million times better than before when we had those simple popups. :)
such as the cathedral atrium in the eastern prairie
or the swimming pool mansion in the central prairie.
Giants cannot enter
I also think that the first day is too difficult for players, who are just entering the game world and figuring out everything. The game time starts at 10AM, so there is a bit of a lack of time.
Moreover, the tutorial uses a cutting machine, which does good damage but cannot help you survive.
For my new game starting Friday (1.0 release), I'm looking at using that Redwood Shelter from Day 5ish until somewhere around Day 40 due to it's protection from Giants. I was hoping the Giants were unable to enter the back area by the pool.
Me and the follower gathered resources and levelled up to 7/8 and from memory 1st night had maybe 20/30 zombies. There's been over a hundred so far and i had one trap.
I basically did not play the new save to prep for the 1st wave and was overwhelmed by 1am
New players will not enjoy 1st night or even nights
Build a compressor on the first night,
or place a cutting machine outside the window on the second floor of the research institute where you start the main quest.
