to figure this out you first need to know trap damages. my friend Velheart figure out these numbers using an attack dummy. He got the trap to trigger and fire at a dummy to record the damages. there's a lot of traps not on this list.
RANGE TRAPS:
Trebuchet Stone ball and bomb =200/hit
Minigun= 35/hit
Flamethrower = 40/hit
Ballista regular bolt = 53/hit
Upgraded bolt = 88/hit
Mortar = 500/hit
MRL =3,500/hit
RailGun 25,0000/hit
MELEE TRAPS:
Cutter =30/hit
Guillotine =600/hit
Shredder =60/hit
Compressor =135/hit
Mallet =45/hit
Grinder =23/hit
Plasma shocker =1000/hit
so what you want to do is try 10% on each trap and see what the bonus is. example, +10% on a cutter is only +3 damage. so in that case a +10 would be better. however, 10% of a guillotine is 60 so for that one you should use a 10% mod.
so basically if a trap does more than 100 damage, use a 10% mod, otherwise use a +10.
if you need to know how much damage a trap does, get it to attack a dummy. you can do this usually by placing the trap and the dummy close together and get the trap to fire at you using a TC programmed to target non-hostile players.
edit:
i guess they would have had to be iron in order to get them to trigger through the TC. wooden traps wouldn't attack you. i suppose if you wanted to go test wooden trap damages you'd have to go find some test subjects
edit 2:
i just noticed they changed it. blade is now 25% not 10%. so calculate based on 25% now. in fact, in light of this topic i am doing the test myself, all new lol. i am going to test all the traps with a dummy to get their damage because those #'s probably been updated too. :)
edit 3:
it is also worth noting that your game settings will affect these numbers. the setting called "trap damage", so the game's difficulty will affect this. from what i'm seeing right now you will mostly want to use the +25% damage mod. the +10 mod is probably mostly only useful on legend difficulty or when you have the trap damage set to zero.
i'm doing tests right now on a dummy using 50% trap damage setting and this is what i've come up with:
there's question marks because i couldn't get the trap to hit the dummy.
these numbers were taken on 50% trap damage modifier in the game's difficulty settings.
MELEE TRAPS: iron damage - aluminum damage
Cutter = 37 - 56
Meat Mallet = 56 - 93
Grinder = 29 - 50
Shredder = 75 - 124
Spike Floor = ? - ?
Pusher = ? - ?
Compressor = 168 - 248
Pendulum = 75 - 124
Guillotine = 745 - 1,242
Plasma Shocker = 1,242 - x
TURRETS:
Ballista (regular bolt) = 65 - (upgraded bolt) = 109
Trebuchet (stone ball) = 248 - (bomb) = 248 + 100 burn damage
Minigun= 43
Mortar = 621 + 100 burn damage
Flamethrower = 50 + 100 burn damage
MRL = 4,347 + 100 burn damage
RailGun = 31,049
