I get them by looting buildings, farming tree and I don't build windmills as they are too expensive.
BUT it is much easier (and not everyone understands this) to buy various components in a store, for example a motor or a battery, and simply disassemble them, you will find that after disassembling you will get enough plastic and rubber, in fact, with such a purchase, 1 plastic (or rubber) will cost less than 1 coins.
now you just have to watch a video about creating metal farms / mining farms that are only needed for farming coins. (on average difficulty, a farm of 100 metal mining machines, located in the RIGHT place, gives 300-400 coins per 1 mining cycle...)
I built a farm for 100 mining machines by day 20....
just build a farm for 10-20 mining machines at the beginning of the game, and then constantly increase the number of machines.
My answer is ...the crafting in this game is way to expensive , start game in custom and set loot for x2. Easy. To buy like Alfafiles said is ludicrous . You need like 9k Won to research everything in last tab , and if you want to buy some books , weel you need at least 11k wons , and if you want to upgrade 2 weapons at Tier 5 you need around 2k for weapon so another 4k . So yea ...buying parts for mats wont work , but ...thats my opinion. Ofc you can set up loot on x3 and respawn natural resources and just farm gold. Then yes , you can buy everything ...but this is how the game supposed to be played ?

But previously, the 10 first days in Legend were a bit of a pain, as plastic or rubber is used to upgrade equipment.
Below is my part of my first day on Challenge difficulty solo. I got bored.

Crafting is not expensive at all. It mostly feels balanced.
