Is this an ore from some mine or is it acquired through breaking rocks? This is a big map so a little guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Aluminium + magnesium. Check the work bench, you can see all the metals you can craft.

Thanks Le Deflagosseur. After I posted the request for assistance I discovered the answer right there in one of my work benches. I feel such a fool. Time to head for the magnesium mine.

Don't worry, it takes me a long time to figure out the simplest things in this game sometimes, like how to put attachments on guns and melee weapons, I feel like a fool too now.
