Using Existing Buildings
I'm still new at this, and am wondering what the current thoughts are on setting up shop in a poi? (poi = point of interest, or prefab. Don't know if that's a standard term, or a 7d2d thing)

From whst I've seen, we can build in them. Other than the doors are they unbreakable? If so do people consider that cheating? I could imagine setting up a corridor of death leading to the front door, and keeping the crafting stuff on the 2nd floor.

Or would that just end up being a trap with no way out...

People are using them indeed. But every building are unique by themselves. Also, be careful that some of the buildings actually spawn zombies inside them. I myself have my base settled on top of the Gas Station in front of the Hospital.

Cheating?, no, concrete and metal walls should resist the hits of a zombie. I built a standard base but POI's looks also like a legitime defense, you also need to find out solutions to build here all you need, as you can't neither to break walls.

That's very fun. I 've build my base in gas station twice. And yeah, the place will spawn zombies and animals in it. So I 'll find them in my base, that's not funny. First time I thought how did they cross my traps coming, then I found that they just spawn in my base. There's no way they can pass my traps to coming...unless they can fly.

We found that sweet mansion the other day, on the map at 15-16; 14. It got a big garden and pool, all behind some high walls with only one entrance through the front gate, the size of the gap is wide enough for some traps, got us some metal building on top of that mansion including Catapults and ♥♥♥♥, no Z make it to the front door as long as the defense weapons don't run out of ammo.

But you will run out of ammo ;-)

I do not consider POI's a cheat. Just like a cliff or water, it is an item in the elements that can be used in engineering a defense. Any planning of a defense is knowing how the aggressors attack and knowing what is at hand to use in preventing the aggressors success. POIs are at hand. Other than the door, the aggressors can not damage them as they can not damage cliffs or the water.

Use the POIs at will, but again, gain knowledge about the aggressor mechanics (or game mechanics such as spawns in this case of POIs).
Keep in mind zombies have an bizzarely far reach when hitting walls. I seen 10 feet or more? I had spikes inside of a building and they were hitting them through the wall. So if you build inside a building make sure you are not against the wall or they can still hit your stuff.

same.

i built traps next to a fence with enough gap for me to walk through.

night of the wave, they were still able to reach and destroy them despite the gap.

sigh

Thanks for the responses!

Sounds like I'll be moving into the town down the road, there's a nice fenced in house with lots of flat space around it and an upper balcony that I have my eye on... So how often would zombies be likely respawn, and are we talking 1 at a time or could the entire family of zombies move back in suddenly?
Use prefab as base is a little cheat because zombies can't destroy it if you do the horde on it & without many trap, you will need +1k ammo o_O But whatever the way, need to clean the horde if not the horde we follow you until daylight & remember that zombies can jump to you until +5th floor if you build very bad your base!

Imo not cheating, it's a sandbox sp/small scale mp you can play however you want, I see that as TONS of replayability, you can try every spot even build your own base from scratch and see how it goes.

Map existing builds should be complete destructable by player (it's effects e.g. dynamite) or zombie attacks, and/or can be disassembled for resources at high game stages (by spec. tools for example)

They can do it like 7 Days To Die but I think they will not do it because they will need to full rewrite all prefab & so make +500 news blocks destructables... That will not a very jobs with a little enterprise like them & I think that will broke the atmosphere of the game...

Ok my findings using a pre-fab for a base:
It led to some very unpredictable and erratic behaviors... We tried it twice, with a gauntlet of traps in a fenced-in yard with our actual base set up on the large 2nd floor balcony. Both attempts resulted in total base annihilation due to a combination of pathing issues, zombies not following intended paths, raging out, and also being able to attack our balcony through the wall from INSIDE the house.

I'm sure a lot has to do with me & my team mate being new and not really understanding the mechanics and AI limitations, so we'll keep trying...
