Tree Branch Balancing
I work a lot and only get one or two branches per tree. I hate to be a brat about it, but trees are chock full of branches. Perhaps instead of repairing traps and walls with branches it should take something else, or make it so we can break down all these stacks and stacks and stacks of logs to get branches. The vines are needed too much for other things, so I hate using them to make branches. Perhaps for crafting items you'd use split logs (new item?) or something else but not vines or branches. Something has to change because this just doesn't work well. I don't mind working for it, but this is getting to be a little silly. You shouldn't have to cut down a forest for a handful of twigs. Perhaps also there could be some branches lying on the ground near the fallen logs.
I really do like the game, it's just new enough that it could use a bit of balancing.

Absolutely, tree branches are used for everything, need balance.

don't chop trees for branches, sprint through the bushes with your knive.

It's been days since I cut down trees. What I do after repairing base in the morning is go on a mining run, then on the way back I 1-hit every bush/shrub. Easy branches and I don't have to spend time specifically farming branches, it's just part of the run back to base.

The biggest mistake I see people making is not making research/equipment upgrades a priority. Once you have the research and upgrades materials aren't a big deal except for oil.

I have done some research at the desk and it seems to ease up a bit but it's still a little bit off for me. I do chop bushes and all that but it just never seems to be enough. I am upgrading my base to metal right now so hopefully I won't be in such an insane cycle of damage repair.

My strat is to diversify my "consumption" of branches. Branches are only used for trap recharging/repairing, small stones for repairing brick foundations. I try to minimize using wood or metal foundations because I don't want anything else to compete for "consumption" of branches & small iron pieces (much rarer than branches IMHO). I don't know how people get by using stuff like Spike launchers and Trebuchets... it's basically throwing branches at the enemy?!... :P

What? You get 300-500 small iron from each horde night. I spend 30-50 on repair and store the rest against a rainy day. Every part of the base that takes damage is metal now since the repair materials are "free".

Basic treb ammo is boulder and stone, have chests of boulders and can gather stone quickly lategame. But yeah, I dismantled the spike launcher because it's branch to damage ratio is really bad.

I think they need a few added recipes. Like boulders into small stones or stone, logs into branches, say 10 iron pieces to make 1 ingot, every hide needs to be able to be processed. For copper is the hardest to find resource so far

The best way I see to balance it out is when you upgrade your axe, knife and pic you should get one more branch , leaves, vine and stones per upgrade.

Trebuchets are simply OP if they have a clear sight of your chokepoints when the big horde comes. I am saving tons of fuel because zeds still can't reach my flamethrower inside the base, trebuchets, spikes and shredders are stopping zombies in the main entrance, Day 17.

Small iron pieces?, I have two chests filled with them, it's the most easy to get out of the repairing materials, zombies drop it.

You become enough Branch from Bushes with your Knife, the only one Thing that need a Balance is...Copper...no Copper..no Traps ...not enough traps.....:steamsad:

yeah branches not so much a prob if you use them wisely I.E don't waste them lol, I tend to just reload my traps for 2-3 nights dependent on damage and just repair when stuff starts getting like it might not survive another attack lol saves a fortune in branches, small stones and small iron pieces :)
Copper on the other hand is a whole different story lol I have way way too much of somethings if not most, but just never enough copper, it's like I'm hunting for the holy grail lol

Thanks, I actually didn't realise the zombies drop small iron pieces... i guess the meta now should be upgrading everything to steel/metal as quickly as possible!

I don't know how you get stone quickly.. because even on max builder research you need 4 stone per brick foundation upgrade and so far most of the stone comes from stone nodes on the ground... very few in houses and POI.

+10 pick, very fast, 3 swings to mine a stone node. Don't make more foundations than you absolutely have to.

Excellent idea!
Right now it's almost as though they want you to stop playing once you're set up. It's weird. One night things were starting to be a challenge and then the next night it was raining butchers. It was an unbelievably drastic jump and now I'm wondering how, with finite resources, am I supposed to play this game as long as I want to? I want a horde game which is sustainable. Trees need to grow back, you know?
