GnG Review 1/10? Why so low?
Here is my MetaCritic review, because no way I'd even take a free copy of this game, I mean even if I loved it, like why? Never understood buying same game multiple times across multiple platforms, anyways.

From metacritic:
1/10

Ghost And Goblins Resurrected might be the worst game ever made. I know I say that a lot, but this time I mean it.

This game is Ghosts and Goblins...with some boring spell abilities and about it, really. Well, that was a waste of money when I have both in the Nintendo Plus store already with my subscription...K, so a 1? Wow, harsh, right?

Well, here's the thing, only the most hardcore will bother to come here and jilt the review score up, and in doing so, the elitism surrounding this series and "retro" game franchises, in general, will continue to propagate. No mister full-time job and only a few hours and a little expendable cash, this isn't for you, you won't enjoy, nor understand why the difficulties don't seem to matter, or why it seems like the developers of the game hate you and your decision to support them.

Marginally increase movement speed and jump distance on lower difficulties? Let the greater difficulties actually have some meaning for greater replay value? Spend time to code different AI and level designs for the difficulties? Nah be too much effort; here's a platform that moves halfway (but not close enough to jump to yet), then all way away from you, then all the way towards you (ha didn't see that one eh? wellp back to the checkpoint then bud!) with a red devil buzzing you into the water for insta death entire time OH JEE SO MUCH FUN!

Oh, you played on squire because you just replayed the original one to celebrate this one's release and wanted to take it easy to start after that? Cool, wellp we don't care. This is a water trap...on the first stage...of GnG...cos...oh ya... there are only 7 levels...I mean we gotta pad this dumpster fire out somehow right?

Okay seriously, I didn't buy this just to have ANOTHER version of nearly the exact same game. I don't know, call me crazy, but I was kinda hoping for like, ya know, a little bit of a new experience.

Maybe difficulties that change the way the game plays allow you to somewhat familiarize yourself with enemies' movements before moving on. No, if you beat this once likely, you'll never pick this up again.

So why a 1 review, eh? I've raged and rambled for this long, but why? Well, in hopes the devs see this. In hopes they un F themselves a little, in hopes the elitism behind otherwise amazingly creative and fun franchises (if not intentionally brutal) wanes a bit, in hopes they release a patch for on squire difficulty, so he moves a little.bit.faster.

Painful is the only way I can describe it, and no, not in an "I CAN DO THIS I JUST GOTTA GET GID" way that the originals, games like Castlevania 1-4 or Dark Souls series offers. No, this is just a sad rehash of an old franchise that never seems to understand; it was never really that popular throughout history vs other platformers because, well, it griefs the player, and it's just miserable to move around.

SMB is a joy of a game and challenging, as are Castlevania games, especially the fourth one. GnG Regurgitated just brings back the worst parts of retro gaming to flaunt out as if that's what made old games great. No. Crap like this we put up with because it's all we had.

The good? I don't know; nothing really stands out. Seriously go play the originals, they're not really as cheap shotty as this one, so at the end of this review, maybe I've contradicted myself because this actually isn't ANYTHING like the originals in spirit.

On some level it does feel like I can move faster in the originals, it's as if I'm having fun, because for every cheap trick to set me back, there's an enemy I aced, an upgrade I tried out and liked, an extra suit of armor when I didn't think I'd see one, again saving me in the nick of time. In other words, I'm having a fun, and challenging time playing the originals.

No, not this one, though. This game came out in 2021. The developers figured instead of taking time and effort to program actual curving AI and varying level design throughout diff levels of challenge, they'd just do the same thing repeatedly but give you a few extra hits and slow down enemies or something.

Insultingly they also reduce the lowest setting to like a cheat mode? Cause F the player wanting any reasonable challenge to learn the game with, I guess?

Oh, the abilities, like why? He doesn't need them, and they all suck, end of the story. Why waste time blowing off some lightning crap when a few well-thrown daggers clears the board in half the time? Things like this make little sense and barely add to the experience.

So okay, that's about all I have to say, but one last time, really a 1/10? Yup, it was a waste of money, and I feel lied to by the pre-emptive news and description of the game by devs/publisher.

If Nintendo weren't crooked and let you refund games, I would of by now.

Clearly you haven't played Underworld Ascendant. It would take some real competition to beat that one as the worst game ever made.

GnGR is an overly difficult reverse tower defense/bullet hell game yes, but worst ever made?

You might just have a personal agenda with it.

Clearly either lying, insanely hyperbolic, or you need to play more than ~5 games.

anyone that gives a 1/10 because such reasons as "too hard" or "cant afford it" should be stripped of review ability. go sit in the corner now and think about how bad you are.

So many words just to say the game is too hard for you.
1-10 is laughable, I'd still give it only a 6.5 out of 10 but thats because I know the game feels rushed but the reason for that was Capcom felt pressured to release another GnG due to a GnG fan game called Ghosts "n" Demons. Same thing happened with The fan made Metroid called Another Metroid 2 Remake and Nintendo felt pressured to make Metroid Samus returns except that game turned out really amazing.

Well... this statement means you probably gave up after few deaths and decided to write this review.

Upgraded Lightning spell not only gives you full screen clear and shoots through obstacles - it can even kill shielded enemies, which can't be done with dagger, and you can encounter some of them in second area of Graveyard btw - but also gives you bunch of invincibility frames so you can use it as a defensive tool

Worst game ever? Far from it. I'd probably put it right above the NES port of Ghosts n Goblins (which is an awful conversion of an otherwise good arcade game) but nowhere near as good as what came after, including Ultimate. I lost interest after finishing the first loop and haven't touched it since.

I feel like this game kind of suffers from the same fate as Crash 4 did- the developers saw all the memes and decided to try and make a product that lives up to them. In the case of Ghosts n Goblins, everyone always brings up the red devil and how difficult he is to kill. Well, here, now he's even more obnoxious since spells don't do ♥♥♥♥ to him (whereas they did in past entries) and he's invulnerable save for the few seconds he swoops down.

If I *had* to put a number on this game, it would probably be a 5/10. I actually thought the art direction wasn't half bad and I like how Capcom incorporated elements from the previous games (kind of like Sonic Mania I guess?). It just isn't as fun or satisfying to play as the others in my opinion.

Please tell me how this game feels rushed.

I feel sorry for you if all you do is go off of critics reviews. You are missing out on some good games.

Perhaps it's possible that the game does what it sets out to do extremely well, but what it set out to do was an ignoble goal to begin with. It's kind of like a Rube Goldberg machine that takes quarters and turns them into a boxing glove that punches you in the ♥♥♥♥. Sure, some people are into it, and hey, more power to them, fly your ♥♥♥♥ flag high, but don't pretend it's the rest of us who "don't get it." It's a niche product, and that's totally fine, but to anyone outside the niche it's just a slightly prettier version of a game that wasn't all that much fun 30 years ago, and ♥♥♥♥ me that sentence makes me feel old.

I mean, the reason gaming has taken off as a medium is because it's been made more accessible, which leads to a larger market, which leads to something being there for anyone who's looking. That includes masochists who think games are obstacles to overcome, not experiences to enjoy. And once again, that's fine. But some of us prefer to get our rocks off elsewhere, and it occurs to me that a lot of my turns of phrase involve ♥♥♥♥♥ and ohmygodithinkImbi.

This review is definitely written by someone who got pissed after dying a lot. I know, because my dumb ass has written a couple such reviews in my time (looking at you, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 and your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ late game content).

This will never be the worst game ever made. Because Action 52 and Cheetahmen/Cheetahmen 2 all exist.
