This is a RTWP cRPG we are taliking about here, so unless you are referring to the Steam Controller - which I own and can confirm that it is the only controller out there capable of almost perfectly replicating the mouse - you've got to be joking. Because playing any cRPG's featuring RTWP combat with console controllers is an absolutely cumbersome and frustrating experience, as Pillars Of Eternity's terrible console release has shown.
If it was a cRPG with turn-based combat (like POE2 : Deadfire, Torment : Tides Of Numenarra or Pathfinder : Kingmaker) then I would agree it would work well, since pretty much everything turn-based is controller friendly right from the start.
But RTWP ? That will never be anything more then a chaotic and frustrating mess to play using any controller that is incapable of emulating the mouse.
Ya. Must be impossible. Thanks. I’ll pass on this one
Cheers,
H
It's amazing how there is always one dude that has to express their disdain for controller support. If implemented well a controller for this could work. It does not matter if it is real time or turn based. The developers just have to adapt. Just beucase Pillars 1 had a bad console port does not mean every crpg will follow. Besides even if it is cumbersome to play a crpg with a controller, there are many reasons for why one would prefer a controller. So just calm down and let the man ask for his controller support. Jesus
and arcanum
and fallout 1-2
and pillars of eternity 1-2
and..
what !?!?
how about the grand daddy of em all Divinity Original sin 1+2
This industry doesn't know the world can't
where is not baldurs game for ps2 mate
only console games like dark allience
divinity is turn based rpg
Except for pillars every game you said was from early 2000 or late 1990 and both Pillars got a console release but for some reason they didn't add controller support on the pc version. So i don't see your point. It's not like it's impossible for games to evolve in 20 years.
its bdsm man
Evolution is having more options. I am not saying this game has to have controller support but the if the developers want they have the option to make it, which will benefit a large number of players. In no way shape or form it would hinder the mouse and keyboard experience, unless the devs make it so. The main reason most crpgs developers do not implement controller support is because most of them are indie devs and adding that would take time and effort.
poor devs i hope they not ever read all of this
Jesus you are the one that started it. If you dont want to have a discussion just stay out of it.
I think a great example is the adaptation Beamdog has done with the Switch(console) port. It uses a radial menu for the analog sticks and it is surprisingly nice to use. Especially me.
Playing on the big screen and enjoying the old classics has been a ton of fun.
So any way, I agree. Controller support would be great.
