Game looks great Except for the Sprites............
Ill probably get this game and the majority of it looks really good but for me watching the trailer whats holding it back are the lack of detail in the characters sprites, some of the female ones especially just look like male sprites and all of them seem to lack detail.
Am I the only one who didn't like this about it?

I'm with you pretty much. The moment I've checked the trailer with Brooke, Iris and Sloane in it, the very first impression was that all them are simply dudes, and I wouldn't ever imagine that they're females if not the initial introduction..
FE likeness bought me initially and I did paid for a kickstarter. It's unfortunate, because FE sprites always were quite clear in their presentation as to what we're looking at. :steamfacepalm:

Glad to see it wasn't just me, It breaks immersion seeing them....
I hope they update them and make them look better.

Yeah it looked weird, like a lot of the art looked clean then the maps and sprites looked quite bland almost like it was made by someone else.

Yeah those combat sprites are pretty fail...

Was pretty interested until I just watched the character trailer. WOW, those sprites don't look a damn thing like the portraits. For several of them, the clothes/hair/colors aren't even remotely the same. One lady is even wearing a dress in her portrait but a jacket and pants as a sprite. It's awful.

Maybe the sprites were from some previous project that they scrapped and recycled?

Are you guys kidding?, trolling,? or just way to young? I guess you never playd the classic Fire Emblem games. Thats the whole point of the art and style they choose here. I am glad they look that way, and i love this pixel art in combat

No mate but if we are forking over our hard earned cash then we have the right to critique a game, If you cant understand that then your the one who is "too young".
If you like it that's up to you but don't spout rubbish about it looking how its supposed to because anyone with clear vision can tell the difference even the female characters look male on the sprites and vice versa.

mmm if my memory serve me right lyn and a lot of the females sprite wasnt just their head glue on a generic asexual body, they had far more personality then what we have seen in this game so far

Exactly right. I've just replayed both routes of Fire Emblem The Sacred Stones some time ago, Dark Deity sprites are absolutely asexual, not sure what Dracleos is on.

And I mean really, whichever Fire Emblem you pick to compare, be that Blazing Blade or Sacred Stones, Lyn, Eliwood, Ephraim, Eirika, or most of the secondary characters, they all have rather definitive looks which conjoins their art to what their sprites look quite well.

100% agree. I don't mind the amount of detail, it's the mismatch between the female character art and the sprite art that puzzles me. The sprites for the females straight up look like dudes. It's weird as hell.

Remember that each character can be 9 different classes. Most of the Fire Emblem characters mentioned have exclusive gender or lord only classes. The sprites aren't meant to mimic the portraits, they're to show that specific character in that class. They've also added palette swaps for each character to give them more personality.

I pretty much agree with the OP here, and I have played most of the Fire Emblem games. Since they were going for sort of a GBA aesthetic, but they were in an engine with little to no limitations, and went FAR over their Kickstarter goals, I expected better quality spritework and animations. My biggest discrepancy is the clash between the portrait art and the sprites. Now don't get me wrong, not every character sprite in FE matched their portrait, but it had some resemblance, to link the characters. It also looks like the devs got lazy and just pasted the female heads on the male sprites to save time, and in some of these animations the hair of the characters isn't even animated.
The map design also doesn't appeal to me too much, its full of boxy, straight paths and slightly odd terrain, and could have really used some tweaks to aid in the realism. The rogue and sage battle sprites disappoint me the most, since in GBA FE, they were some of the best designed and best animated sprites. If sequels are planned in this style, this is something that should definitely be improved on. Either way, I will buy and play the game and then leave a review once I am done.
