I love this game.. but I see only 2 flaws.
This game is awesome firsts of all only played 20hrs so far and I love the the weapon colors, attack type and armor type, this is a game where you have to... Think again! Thinking is Something that when a franchise becomes famous it tends to watered down the mechanics to appeal to a wider audience.

I love about 90% of the classes (they should add more unique animations many are ripped from Sacred stones) the grave wounds is a good replacement for permadeath in my opinion, I still restart but sometimes is not worth it and I take the hit, that one can promote with out the need for seal’s is a plus too.

Now there two things that if fixed I would love this game the first of the lesser one.

Linear Story- Well, this is a minor complain but I still think that they can make it better and my following problem with this is related to problem two and that is that when you need to fight “X type Y Type and Z type” you as a player tend to pick the clases that will perform better against said enemy for example a plated opponent then you choose characters with Mages with Arcane or warriors with Crush attacks, then said heroes will level up leaving the rest of your huge squad behind, since you can’t redo battles some characters tend to fall behind and when you need them they are level below the enemy.

One thing I like in Fire Emblen:Sacred stone is that there were some towers level where you could grind some of your heros, it had side quest along the main quest too to level them up on pair with the rest of them. In short add side quest or a limited grinding level (Let’s say it can be played 2 times only) to level up some units.

Promotions right now!- I hate this mechanic so much and the only thing I really complain about, for one there so many classes to choose from and if you choose wrong you are stuck with that character on a class where it performs poorly or mediocre, I have started this game 3 times already due to this. Later on I get a character that performs really well due to his unique skill in a certain class and I already have a character in that class… I like to have as much varied roster as I can and when they promote on the go, I am forced to choose a class right now without accessing my groups needs… what if instead of storm damage I really needed Fire damage? What is instead of Plate I needed Chainmail? Instead of Pierce I needed Hack damage? What if instead of a Knight I needed Cavalry? At the early game its not so bad but later on it get more difficult since you get characters that need to be promote right away, like the 2 green hair sisters and the assassin and on the Boat mission too… I would love if I could skip the promotion and get it at the campsite so I can study my group needs and promote accordingly.

I love strategy games because I can plan and it like food for my brain, I would like to plan my party’s composition and this is something that I can’t, what worse I can’t see the promotion tree so I can’t plan ahead. In short this is the only thing I really, really hate and I wish they can change this.

What do you guys think about the Promotions on the moment?

My first SRPG was FE7 and the only grinding there was the arena. This game doesn't need a grinding option since every single new unit you get comes in over-levelled and there's plenty of time to get the initial cast up to par since enemies give more XP to your lower level units.

Linear story is fine, they've added in random recruitment and crazy different difficulty sliders to make a custom play experience.

The instant promotions don't feel great though, and the lack of being able to look at your team before selecting a path sucks, especially since the character is stuck there for 1/2 the game. Conversely, you get 5 characters of each class and on normal difficulty, there's hardly a reason to min/max character builds, so if you put someone in a "bad/wrong" class, you can still get by and/or replace them since there are 4 others of that same base class to choose from and, as mentioned before, the new recruits will be over-levelled vs your team anyway making swapping entirely viable.

I have to agree with OP. I also love the game, but being locked into classes is kind of a downer. More recent games in the genre (Fire emblem 3 houses ect) give the option to "reclass". one fix for this would be A) Add a random battle arena for grinding and B) Have new classes reset the character to level 1, and that way characters can grind a class and have it unlocked, grind a second one ect. Just a thought on what I have seen in the genre that works. You DONT have to keep things simple in a SRPG. The people drawn to these games are smart enough to handle complex and intricate mechanics. In fact, those I know who play this genre, like me, crave those details and intricacies.

i would also add special classes for "main" characters like irving or sara not the plain knight/mage but samurai or summoner/dancer etc
