It was bad enough Jagex was trying to push their own launcher, last thing I want is to deal with an EGS requirement here.
I have a jagex account. I'm not signing up to an anti consumer POS like epic games to play a game I already have an account for.
♥♥♥♥ outta here.
Hard pass.
bye felicia
Epic is NOT fine. They peddle their free games to thinly veil their anti-consumerist bullcrap that goes on behind-the-scenes to the naive.
-Their Digital Storefront launched RIDDLED with security bugs that left their consumers with easily exposed credit/debit cards that they didn't immediately rectify
-EGS launcher has been caught scanning user file directories, (when not in use), for insider-knowledge to the software installed on their consumer's systems and report the findings to their sever farms for collection.
-poach fully released games on Steam that users have bought, delist them, and then make accessible ONLY via EGS launcher (such as Rocket League or Fall Guys)
-their refusal and abrasive approach to fix and add QoL features for years to their storefront (such as the ability to buy more then ONE game at a time)
-Epic actively working to sabotage consumer support for the Linux OS when Valve was working with Easy Anti-Cheat to incorporate Linux compatibility (before Epic bought out EAC) and then dropped all support/contact with Valve once Epic acquired EAC
-Epic bolstering a false bravado to Developers stating they'll earn more money on the EGS platform since the revenue split is much smaller then Valves yet offering only a fraction of the features (and most importantly (lacking) A DISCOVER-ABILITY ALGORITHM to help promote indie studios/products for consumers to discover and buy which loses out on sales)
I'm sure there's more I'm missing, but take your pick to any ONE, let alone a fair few, of the reasons above to avoid a scumbag, greedy corp like Epic a free pass. You may be fine being ill informed and operating on the software-launcher riddled, blue muffin equivalent, of a computer system, but don't make that decision for people if they choose to do better for them-self.
where most games don't even tell you a screen about signing up to a epic account or about account linking. and it just uses the Steam ID to authenticate.
When Earth Defence Force 6 was released last year the devs for that game implemented it where it required you to link to a epiic account by signing into there account instead of just letting Steam be used to sign onto it instead.
But was patched in later without the epic account sign in or linkage.
A lot of games do use the EOS but dont force the sign in / linking. But it should be up to the user if they want to allow cross-play or not. without the forced linkage.
