Treating them like two different titles is a fallacy, because content and even game-wise, there is legitimately no difference.
It's true, that's 100% the same, but works on modern systems!
I have not tried the new version yet, but the legacy version was an ABSOLUTE ABSOLUTE mess. I simply could not stand how badly it was implemented at Steam....like its creators / publishers never tried to play test it before selling it on Steam. I quit and just uninstalled it after playing it a very short time. The conversations were pasted in wrongly, so you always missed the first part of EVERY audio dialogue in the entire game. It just ruined everything. You are not missing out on anything. Trust me, I am telling you that as someone who really wanted to play that game back then.
Moreover, these are often not even complete on Steam. Be it sound, textures, voice output or other content. Regionlocked.... Or files will be changed suddenly. As example. Mafia from 2K games, Drakensang, Arkania and many more.
Not to forget a intermediated MITM platform (Steam) you are forced use and to get "your" desired products.
